Re: Clarion Ledger: Ole Miss to Receive NCAA Penalties Within 24 Hours

I guess we'll know in about 24 hours, but early conjecture was that if the penalties were going to be bad the NCAA would delay the release them after the Egg Bowl so as not to potentially make the clash of fans even worse. Were they going to let OM off with a slap on the wrist, I don't know what they would have delayed longer than the typical 6-8 weeks after the meeting with the CoI.

Tomorrow will have been almost 12 weeks since the meeting with the CoI...

What if we're slow playing recruiting for that reason? One or two guys showing interest?

We'd rather have HS over effectively JUCOs 100 out of 100 times unless it is a position of weakness. WR unlikely to be a position of weakness with all these freshmen.

I've heard from one of my OM buddies that AJ Brown has privately expressed interest in transferring to Bama if they add another year of bowl ban. I'd take that dude in a heartbeat - he's a MONSTER.
And it seems like their new HC (Luke) is willing to give players a full release. Didn't he give a player a full release last week or so? A lot of coaches don't do that unless they feel the player truly isn't very good.

I wonder if the NCAA will allow transfers to move without sitting for a season.

Wasn't Luke. Player hired Tom Mars (Houston Nutt's attorney) to request a release on the basis of the school lying to him. If he had not received what he asked for, it would have gone to court. Others have hired him as well and others are pending the release of the sanctions.

As long as there's a bowl ban the length of the player's remaining scholarship, the NCAA allows it. Can't remember if there's a specified rule for it or if they've just put that stipulation as part of the punishment.

I would definitely like to have AJ Brown and Benito Jones
Saban wanted them badly during their recruitment, too. But I think we have a good idea as to why they didn't sign with Alabama.

Agree... Everyone knows there is something floating in the punch bowl, and who put it there.
I don't think a slap of the hand will be enough this time. I think they may extend the loss of scholarships and extend the bowl ban at least another year. Much more than that and even Tennessee might feel sorry for the multi mascot team... OR NOT...

(2nd year of bowl ban = mass exodus) * loss of additional scholarships = Dead Rebears

not surprised with this tidbit. Brown was all Bama until OM gave him a deal his family couldn't re$i$t.
