On3: Crimson Tide Disrespected?

Now that Saban has left we're (until proven otherwise) a "regular" football program. We're not coached by a Hall of Fame coach who dominates college football. The day Saban retired from Alabama the entire college football world threw a party. FINALLY! FINALLY! In their minds, now other programs have a chance to fill the championship slots Saban routinely got Alabama to.

So it's not really an element of disrespect but more of a "this is who you are now until proven otherwise", and we went 9-4 last season losing to Vanderbilt, a very bad Oklahoma team, and Michigan's third string. So far "they" are right...
This is how I feel, that Alabama that won 100 straight games against unranked teams is no more, and that’s okay, that’s a run that will never be replicated again, we’re on the fringe of the 5-6 teams that people will think about as title contenders at least while Texas, Oregon, Ohio State, and Georgia continue to do what they do and it is what it is but that can easily change if we can actually play to our talent level. On paper, I’d say since 2022 we’ve had a team good enough to at least make the National Title game and we’ve come short every year, this year is no different, on paper we should be able to make a deep playoff run but that remains to be seen.

Watching the Oklahoma game now and Brent Venables diagnosed Bama's offense well. The Sooners declared bluntly, "You will not run #4 on us. We will accept risk elsewhere, but he will not be allowed to run on us. Period."
And the Bama coaching staff had no answer. Just keep trying to run the QB against 8 in the box.
Frustrating to watch.
Why would watch that train wreck? I turned it off the first time.

Hot Take: The failed "Jalen Milroe Project" is most likely to be blamed for almost every bit of this. I'm not ignoring the inconsistency of other players, the OL or defense at times...but he impacted the team culture immensely! JM became the face of the last two seasons, like it or not. His shadow overshadowed everything else.

If his inconsistency left a mark on the Bama Nation's mind, surely it impacted other fans as well.

And, all this goes back to BOB and CNS not having another QB in the cue to follow Bryce. For years, our QB recruiting has been and continues to be stellar, but the lack of an SEC star QB after BY is largely to blame for the struggles of the last 2 seasons.
Milroe is a great kid but he was inadequate and inconsistent at QB. I have never seen a qb with anything close to his speed take so many sacks.

I 100% wish him well in the NFL. Maybe he can greatly improve with the right coaching, I don't know. I do know that I look forward to seeing what Simpson can do. I also think that defenses will crowd the LOS less often and we will see a big improvement from our running backs.

I honestly doubt he can make it in the NFL. However, I doubted Hurts also. There's a big difference between the two in thought processing, though. I hate to say it, but the difference is there. Hurts worked like a possessed devil on his weaknesses and the Eagle coaches saw that and became believers. I don't expect that from Milroe. I really hope I'm proven wrong...

Even if the mental side clicks eventually, I'm not sure his arm talent will allow him to succeed.

JH had/has arm talent. He wasn't as accurate as Tua but who is? But once he started to understand coverages, footwork and timing, he started to succeed, even at Bama, OU and obviously now in the NFL.

JM? Probably the most inaccurate QB at Bama I can ever recall. Even on a long throw, which is his supposed strength, he was often very inaccurate. And in short to medium range throws, he was terribly inaccurate and showed very little ability to throw passes in tight windows, the way a successful NFL QB must do to move the chains on 3rd downs.

JM was only good on downfield throws due to his arm strength. He could place the ball nicely downfield giving the WR plenty of time and space to run to the ball and avoid the DB making a play.
