Opening the Transfer Portal early...CFB hurts itself again

If you dont give 4/5* players the ball they will go elsewhere to get it...and we just dont give RB/TE/WRs the chances they want. I expect a lot of talent to leave. But the timing of the announcement is unfortunate...all about self....

meh, he had several drops and whiffed blocks this year
The only reason this would be an impactful loss would be if we make the playoffs. I don't think it's impactful at all for next year.

I can't stand the timing of these portal windows. Maybe there is a logic to it that I don't see or understand, but it make no sense to me that a portal window would open before the end of the season.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
Maybe he knows Law and Bernard are coming back for their senior year.
Here's the WR room, not counting Prentice.
Kendrick Law, Junior
Germie Bernard, Junior
Emmanuel Henderson, Junior
Jalen Hale, Sophomore
Cole Adams, Redshirt Freshman
Ryan Williams, Freshman
Rico Scott, Freshman
Jaren Hamilton, Freshman
Amari Jefferson, Freshman
Caleb Odom, Freshman
Bubba Hampton, Freshman
Though I don't expect Milroe to come back, if he does there are a number on that list who are transferring. If he doesn't come back, they're staying.

If Milroe comes back he's almost single handedly setting the program back years.....just from the amount of skill position transfers that would happen.
One way or the other, I’m ready for the drama to be over. For some JM is “the straw that stirs the drink”. For others, he is the “poop in the punch bowl”.
But you are correct. A return for another year will certainly affect the number of skill position players considering a jump to the portal.

JM could be CKD's secret love child and I don't think he'd bring him back next year.

Coach knows next year is very, very important to turn the offensive ship from questionable to dynamic and I truly believe he's got his eye toward a true passer.

Frankly, I'm at the point that I don't care who it is (Ty, Russel, Mack or an accomplished transfer) as long as it is not Milroe.

FWIW, the NFL draft guys are still saying JM is likely the #3 QB (ahead of the Georogi QB). I kinda doubt it, but I figure is JM is a late 1st rounder/early 2nd he'll be gone for the NFL money!

I think this year Sheridan and Shephard have done a lot of trial and error with the offense. A good bit involved Milroe for sure. I don't think he returns. But if he does, I think the offense looks a lot different from what we've seen. I have not seen anywhere any comments by WRs about what you suggested. But if true, I can fully understand their concerns. They want to catch some balls. In addition to Milroe running a lot, a number of passes went to the RBs and TEs. Regardless of who starts at quarterback next year, the WRs need to be more involved, or they will hit the portal. But I think Prentice leaving is he doesn't believe he'll be a starter next year. Not sure play calling has much to do with it. But that might be part of it. He wants a shot at the NFL, and wants to finish somewhere where he gets more exposure. It's also hard to compete with Ryan Williams, who will get a lions share of throws. I wish Cobe much success. He's very talented and will be a starter somewhere.

I don't recall "drops" and "whiffed blocks". I recall one missed block. Kobe is a really good WR. He's one of the fastest WRs on the team.
there was at least one game where he dropped 2 or 3 that were in his hands and he completely whiffed (with what looked like zero effort) the block on the ill advised screen against oklahoma that resulted in a pick 6
