<very humbly and quietly> 52-0? lol.
Link me to the article where our DC is complaining about the other team trying to score in the 4th quarter.

Also, show your extensive knowledge of our "running up the score" by telling us all how many passing yards vs. rushing yards we had in the second half.

Then on the other hand you have Coach Saban who was upset that Henry took it to the house with a minute left in the game. There have been numerous games where we deflated the ball as much as we could or deliberately didn't kick a field goal or try to score while in the red zone at the end of games.
Did you guys try your hardest not to score 52 points? You could have been nice and let them score at least 7. Our teams do the same things to other teams. Dismantle them. The only difference is that one of us pretends it pains and angers us that we do it, and the other just rolls with it and does it.

Try to keep up, your coach is complaining that the other team tried to score on you when you had your scrubs in. Our coach was upset when our 5th string tailback ran 85 yards in the closing minutes of the game. If you can't see the difference there, you're being deliberately obtuse and there is no point in your continuing this discussion, as you're just trolling.

Seriously?

I'm thinking you literally only saw the score, not the game.

Also, care to comment about your DC's whining or are you simply going to try to deflect?
I tried to watch as much of your game as I could, mainly the first half, but there were so many other good games at the same time that I switched over to the LSU game after it was clear you had won yours. I think our DC embarrassed himself. He should have just kept quiet. Our defense struggled against their pass happy offense and it didn't make him very happy. It makes him look like a fool for sounding off on it. But he has a tendency to do that. He's not the most diplomatic guy out there. Hopefully Mariota's bad game will take away some of this Heisman hype and put it on the FSU QB. That stuff just interferes with a team's head and takes away from the focus on the team as a whole and not one individual. The hype clearly caught up with him. As well as some WSU defenders.

You should follow your own advice. You didn't see the second half which was a who's who of a bench-clearing scrub fest for us. Yes, we did our best to completely take our foot off the gas. Nick Saban's look of frustration when our 5th string tailback busted an 85 yard run says it all. Your DC is an idiot. I'm glad we at least agree on that.

I took a look at box scores. You really don't want to discuss this issue at length. One of Oregon's coaches opened his mouth up about this issue, but the fact of the matter is that Mariota has played in the third quarter every game, and sometimes in the fourth quarter of blowouts, just like Oregon is almost always throwing in the fourth quarter. Marcus even played deep into the Nicholls State game. NICHOLLS STATE! I didn't even know how to spell their name, I had to look it up, and Oregon has their precious QB out there through the entire third quarter. Against NICHOLLS STATE! He's out there throwing the ball at the end of the third quarter, against a less than nobody. Then!!! The backups come in, and throw passes on every single drive except for the final one. You got that right, they are beating up on Nicholls State, winning by over 50 points and still throwing passes! They didn't pass on their last drive, which was two plays to run out the clock, but they did run for a first down... so yeah, Oregon runs up the score and they are doing nothing more than trying to look better than they actually are.

You do know Alabama typically only runs the ball with the second string, right? You do know Alabama actually put the second string in, in the SECOND QUARTER once this year, right? You do know that the past couple of games, Alabama has had the backups in the third quarter, right? This, while Marcus was out there last game in the fourth quarter, throwing the ball.

Oh yeah, and 'Bama did that all while playing a more difficult schedule than Oregon. So, yeah... Oregon runs the score up and gets mad when other teams have the audacity to not roll over and play dead.

It just happens man, honestly. Our starters were benched midway through the 3rd quarter. It's tough to tell a guy chomping at the bit to get a chance to play to "take it easy" once he gets in there.

And from the perspective of your team, i'm OK if they score 100. As I alluded to earlier, it's not Oregon's job to stop Oregon. If I'm a defensive player, I'm insulted if you "take it easy" on me. Forget that. Go all out until the final horn blows. Any competitor wants that, I would think.

About us at least letting them score, I think us compared to Oregon is simply a contrast of styles/philosophies. Where Oregon's scoreboard operator needs to do push-ups before the game to keep up with all the changes, Bama's philosophy is (and for as long as I can remember has been), the goal line is ours and we don't like to share. When I was growing up, a 3-0 or 9-0 Bama win was commonplace, even if it was against a decidedly inferior opponent. So you know...perhaps the matchup will happen. It would be interesting to see the two contrasting styles on the same field. But no need to tarry on the topic right now. Still a lot of football to be played. Landmines all over the place for every team in the top 5.

So, yah, maybe spend a little less time taking oblique shots at Bama and actually pay attention next time.

I'll be honest, your comparing oregon to Bama is borderline offensive to me, so take it down a notch. You guys have accomplished nothing. Nada, zip, zilch.

Your observations are of course correct. No disagreement there. Where we see things differently is in the motive. Does Oregon run the score up on purpose just to make us look better, or do we try to get most of the players on the team some game time and an opportunity to run the Oregon offense as it's meant to be run? The second and third stringers will one day be running the offense. I think they need to get the opportunity to do just that, regardless of the score. If they are milking the clock and running the ball every play, they are not playing Oregon's style and won't get the actual game time exposure they need. It's more important to get them used to the system and let them run with it than to pull out all the stops so as not to embarrass the other team. Nichols State knew why they were there and they had no problem with it. They were there for the pay, and they were there for Oregon to practice on and get warmed up for the season, to work out the kinks. If teams like Georgia didn't keep canceling their home and home series with us, we would be playing better teams instead of scrounging around for whatever team we can find to take their place at the last minute.

It's starting to feel like the ducks are getting a little worried about who may be gaining, rather then who they are chasing. T-shirts, we want Bama, a DC emotional overload when point differential/style points, doesn't present themselves. Maybe it's the view in the rear view mirror that's causing this DC to cry "fowl?"

To be honest, I hope FSU and Ohio St. drop a game sometime soon, and I hope FSU's QB will start feeling the glare of the Heisman hype and Mariota can lay low for a bit and just do his thing.

For the record, here's the quarter by quarter breakdown of Bama's play calling yesterday:

First Quarter
10 rushing plays for 34yds
10 passing plays for 80yds

Second Quarter
4 rushing plays for 98yds
6 passing plays for 58yds

Third Quarter (Second team started the second possession beginning at 5:42 left on the clock)
9 rushing plays for 68yds
8 passing plays for 42yds

Fourth Quarter (Third, fourth, and fifth in for the entire quarter; Saban visibly frustrated that we scored)
14 rushing plays for 152yds
0 passing plays for 0yds

Really, really, really difficult (AKA "impossible") to seriously try to make an argument that Bama didn't take the foot off the gas.

Good grief! How do we get this back on track. The discussion was not about running up the score. That's a deflection and you injected that. The discussion was about your DC complaining about the audacity of the opponent's actually trying to SCORE BY PASSING. Do you understand how dumb that sounds? So all of Oregon's opponents are supposed to bend over and quit trying? Last night, the our 1st stringers were begging to be put back in to preserve the shutout. The only one who stayed in was CJ, the defensive play-caller. Our 4th and 5th stringers preserved the shutout and our 5th string true freshman RB scored the last TD on a bounce-out after the middle clogged. Of course, he's 240, 6'5" and has 4.4 speed, but that's not the point. You just don't even seem to grasp the central point. You had a coach complaining about the other team trying to score. We just expect it. We'd be insulted if they didn't...

Next thing you know, the DC will complain that the other team bothered to step off of the bus and onto the same field as his team... the audacity of some teams against the mighty Oregon D...
