OU (Playoff) Preview: Bama Gets A Shot at Redemption, Times Two

by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief

For the second consecutive game, Alabama will face an opponent that it has already played at some point in the 2025 season. This time, Alabama gets the opportunity to right a wrong.

Oklahoma delivered a memorable upset loss to Alabama in Bryant-Denny Stadium a month ago, memorable because Alabama essentially doubled up the Sooners in offensive output, but turned the ball over too much and committed too many critical errors to overcome. Oklahoma won the game 23-21, forcing Alabama to beat Auburn to claim a spot in both the SEC Championship Game and ultimately, the College Football Playoff.

Alabama spotted OK 17 points and lost by 2. Since then they have been on an offensive slide for a month or so

I'm going with reversion to the mean. One or 2 less turnovers and a partial restoration of offensive power, gives 24-13.

It’s super hard to beat a team twice in a short time. And yes, we totally outplayed them in the loss. But we’ve been playing mediocre /poorly for quite awhile. I’m gonna expect the worst…and party hard if we win!

It seems that our offensive woes have come since Grubb left the booth for the field. CDB should send him back upstairs. Lots of comments call into question his play calling since leaving the booth. Bama wins 27-17 Friday night.

We are all trying to figure this team out. I'm in the camp that if this team is healthy and keeps the miscues from coming up we should handle Oklahoma easily. I don't see Oklahoma having any long substantial drives on our defense. We should have success in the passing attack.

Jess, like the updated analysis. Just need for Ty to come out and play like he did earlier in the year. Hopefully, the time off has helped him heal up, and get mentally and physically ready to play. Tide wins going away. RTR

Great write-up Jess. I am now referring to our team as the "cardiac kids."
I can honestly say that I have never thought Alabama would lose any football game. Of course that is a ridiculous viewpoint, but I can't help it. Call it team loyalty or whatever. Until that final whistle I am always expecting a win.
At least I am right most, nay almost all, of the time. Also a little naive.
Roll Tide!

I've wondered the same and haven't heard any discussion about it.

I like this analysis because you picked my team to win! Overall, great assessment of where this game will be won or lost, provided no negative surprises in the form of turnovers or really untimely penalties by the Tide. Those turnovers led to nearly all of OU's points last time out.

Still, without Overton, man that hurts. He's a force that doesn't get nearly enough recognition in the press. If Cuevas can't go, or is just there in name alone, I don't think Bama wins. They CAN win without him, but requires a step up from WR or RB like we haven't seen in a long while.

I can't make a prediction myself, because I just don't know what impact Cuevas can be.

Any clue why that decision was made? Is it a requirement now that the OC be on the field? Some kind of post-season rule?
