Our weakest link?

Bama 13-0 nailed it. If Brodie gets hurt again, we are in trouble ! rtr...

There are areas where JPW has done better this spring than Brodie, in particular, hitting receivers when on the run. Considering the possibility our OL may best be described as "patchwork" that may be a blessing in disguise.

Bat123, you lost me. "Fans," the weakest link? If anything, I hope and pray that the fan base has realistic expectations. If not, you are correct.

Gooood grief, we've had this problem ever since Stallings left (at least it seems that way). We've struggled with special teams for yrs. now. Wonder what's up. :conf3:

I thought Special Teams were much improved last year. The only part of Special Teams that really struggled was in the area of turnovers. Once the staff pulled Brooks and inserted Protho, it was a marked improvement. I too am worried about Specail Teams for the coming year. I think we will be fine on kicking off, kick returns, and punt returns! I think we will struggle on field goals and punting. I sincerely hope that I am wrong and one of these youngin's step up to the plate too prove me wrong!!! I love it when that happens!!!!!!

I seem to remember last year, we had similar concerns about the OL. We were replacing a few stud performers, the new faces weren't battle-tested yet, and there was much hand-wringing about how the unit would do.

As it turns out, things weren't as bad as we thought they might be.

I'm frettin' a little about special teams, but not so much as I was during the Dubose and Franphony years. We seem to have made some strides in the recent past.

My biggest concern is our continued lack of depth. If we expect to contend for Division and Conference titles, then we need the manpower to go four full quarters in slobber-knocking games against LSU, Florida, and Tennessee, 11 times between the first week of September and the last week of November.

Coach Shula is proving to be a fine recruiter and I think the depth will be there in the not-so-distant future. But in 2005? Pray for a relatively injury-free year. We're gonna need it.

I agree the fans.

If the players give their all and lay it on the line then we should be happy. If we lose a few games and get on here and bash players then we are the weak link. These guys work their butts off (probably harder in the offseason) to get ready and perform on Saturdays. We should be happy that they chose to wear the Crimson jersey (b/c most of them had offers from at least 20 other schools) and should treat them respect.

However, that hasn't been the case with all the players.

Depth.

Talent and coaching seem to be there, but Bama is still not as deep as is desirable to compete for the SECCG. A few key injuries could really affect the season badly. Another couple of top-10 recruiting seasons may be needed to fix this.

Terry, if these young lineman don't pan out, what color will the beverage be in the glass you're thinking of? I guess amber.

Tounge in check my friend I just thought the subject required a little levity is all (note  )........ However some of the things I've read after post game losses makes me wonder if I might have accidently stumbled on to something :eek2:

Let's hope it isn't black...as in coffee to keep us awake while *simmering* down the crowd here! :frown:

You know, on a sad note there is more truth to that than most might expect. We'll see the "fan base/GOB network" raise their voices.

On a different note, I'm not looking forward to the retirement of Coach Moore and the subsequent search that'll follow in replacing him. I fear, a repeat of the DuBose debacle.

While we have our sources and listen to some people who are "in the know", reality is you never know how a game or a season will turn out till it is played. It's not like Alabama is the only program in the SEC who has some problems to work out. I'm sure we will work some of those problems out and I'm just as sure that somewhere along the way some new problem will emerge that will leave some cussing like a sailor.

As for the fans, some have met these challenging times with class and fortitude, others in a different way. RTR

It is not possible that he's already grooming his sucessor? Pardon my memory (more like the lack of it) the gentleman (his name escapes me) recently hired from Troy?
