I was so starved for college football that I watched Fresno State play Nevada last night. I was thinking about Pat Hill, Fresno's HC. I think he's a pretty good coach and I admire the fact that Fresno doesn't back down to anyone, will go anywhere and play anyone at anytime. However, there is something a little sleazy about this guy. I can't quite put my finger on it.

I get the impression that Fresno State will accept anyone that's as dumb as a brick as long as they can bench press a house. Doesn't Fresno accept partial qualifiers?

Back to my original question, I think Hill is a good coach, seems to run a pretty good scheme offensively and defensively and has cajones. Again, though, I can't quite put my finger on it, he just seems kind of sleazy.

Thoughts?

Maybe its because he looks a bit "Bikerish" or that he should be on MTV's "Pimp my Ride"! He sure can coach though!!!

I've often said that Pat Hill is destined for a top tier program, possibly one of th PAC 10 jobs at some point in the future. Fresno State is kind of like USM, willing to play anybody at their house to get the exposure. As for his appearance he kind of looks like an old fashion coach from the 60's, not much on style just a blue collar kind of guy.

I think the world of Pat Hill. I love both his personal attitude and that of his program/players.... COME ONE, COME ALL!!! I think he is a solid coach and schemes well with the type of players that he can get at Fresno St. Winning always helps to increase your recruiting abilities every year.

The sleazy feeling is probably one of psychological profiling of you uncognizant mind. You see the image of a bug-eyed man that has a handle bar mustache, ruddy skin, and hair that has never seen conditioner. The image just screams sleazy. But hey.... who really gives a crap what a football coach looks like as long as he wins, runs a clean program, and increases the image of your school.

I like the guy, he's a no frills, no BS kind of guy. The type that will tell you what he thinks, not what he thinks you want to hear. Those may not be endearing qualities in today's PC world, but they should be.:BigA:

Living in Calif. I get to watch a lot of Fresno St games. Pat Hill is an outstanding coach and he really knows how to evaluate talent. he goes out and gets kids that may only be 2 or three stars but have the heart and desire to play. He then molds them into a very competative team. He is also not afraid to schedule or go anywhere to play reguardless who it is.

Separated at birth? He reminds me of a biker or truck driver with that awesome facial hair.:)

He is a good coach. His team always puts up a good fight no matter who they are playing. Another thing I like about him is that he recruits the "underdog" recuits that no one else really wants. Developing underated talent and playing tough are his trademarks.

I grew up in Fresno and was in Fresno when Pat Hill got hired and developed the Fresno State program before I moved out here.

Given the situation that he deals with there, he's done a lot with very little. They don't even have a decent weightroom for the football program, they have a good sized metal shack with a fence as a door that sits next to the practice field.

The thing that most people may not notice with Pat Hill is that he is a great motivator. He doesn't care who the opponent is, he always tries to get his players to believe that they can beat anyone. Look at the USC game last year, they could've been walked over easily by the Trojans and actually almost won the game at the Coliseum! He's a good coach in terms of developing a team and all, but he's also an underrated motivator. I think if given a chance, Alabama should try to throw money his way to hire him onto CMS' staff.
