I agree, but I don't want to get into the point I was making. But neither Ty nor Jalen could handle it.Mac or Bryce would have absolutely torched their blitz with quick passes, even with last year’s OL.

Would Grubb have lobbied for Ty? Ready or not?TBF, I don't think DeBoer should be judged on last season given the situation that he walked into.
I don't think Grubb would have made much of a difference last season...![]()
Would it have mattered if he did? A big chunk of the WR room did...Would Grubb have lobbied for Ty? Ready or not?
No it wouldn’t have mattered.Would it have mattered if he did? A big chunk of the WR room did...
The 2023 USF game was an aberration on all sorts of levels that had very, very little to do TS reading and beating a blitz as he rescued the team from itself. For the record, even with a big part of the OL not present, he still had at least 1, maybe 2 blitz beating quick passes on hot routes in his half of play.I agree, but I don't want to get into the point I was making. But neither Ty nor Jalen could handle it.
Good point. So, the more pertinent question might be how good is RG without CKD? He was mediocre under Tedford (4th to 8th as OC) and fired by Seattle in his only 2 years without DeBoer, but he’s been spectacular with him: 1 & 1 at FS, 1 & 3 at Wash in 2022-2023, then 16-0 and SEC's number 1 O in 2025 at Alabama.
I see what you did thereAt Fresno as OC, CKD took an O that was ranked 12 in 2016 to 9th, then 4th, in 2017-18 before he left for Indiana as OC for one year, 2019, and led them to 3rd in the B10 in total O after being ranked 7th the year before, then 10th in 2020, 14th in 2021 after DeBoer. Don’t know if the difference was because of personnel or the OC or ???. (Sheridan replaced DeBoer as OC.) So, CKD has succeeded without RG as OC.
Grubb was never the OC at Sioux Falls under DeBoer, but was on the staff as OL & RGC for 3 of DeBoer's 5 years as HC. As Fresno OC, he led them to a total offense ranking of 8, 1, 1 in 2019-2021. The last 2 years as CKD’s OC, who returned as HC in 2020. So, the more pertinent question might be how good is RG without CKD? Grubb is a seasoned vet with a lot of respect from CKD. He would have gave a lot more than a look to CKD if he were on the sidelines last year. IMO, CKD looks to Grubb much more as his co-worker as opposed to Grubb being his underling. Sheridan, for multiple reasons, had not yet garnered the same respect in those areas from CKD.No it wouldn’t have mattered.
Grubb would have had facial expressions like Rees.
Probably even more frustrated looks being forced to try and call plays for an Athlete instead of a QB.
Did you mean Sheridan? Rees was OC under Saban.Grubb is a seasoned vet with a lot of respect from CKD. He would have gave a lot more than a look to CKD if he were on the sidelines last year. Sorry, I blacked out last season and couldn't recall...Did you mean Sheridan? Rees was OC under Saban.
He released a statement after DeBoer accepted the Alabama job that basically came right out and said he badly wanted the Washington HC job but wasn’t going to get it. I think he’d absolutely leave for the right HC gig.Has Grubb showed any interest in being a HC? I kind of get the feeling that he's a career OC. If that's the case, and if he has success at Bama, with his buddy DeBoer, why would he leave? He took a shot at the NFL last year and that didn't work out so well.
To be fair to CKD, and to add to your point, year one is a bad measuring stick for a guy's offense. Last year was a growth year for CKD in many areas and the program at Alabama is a different animal. To try to fulfill all the duties and responsibilities that were put on him, along with calling an offense, are a tall task for almost anyone. Down the road, with or without Grubb, I would expect to see CKD to be much more involved offensively for no other reason than he is more comfortable balancing the HC role in T-town.He released a statement after DeBoer accepted the Alabama job that basically came right out and said he badly wanted the Washington HC job but wasn’t going to get it. As to the question about whether the offense’s history of success lies more with DeBoer or Grubb - I agree with others that DeBoer has a pretty good track record as an OC/play caller independent of Grubb. I think Grubb gets a lot of press because of the crazy numbers Penix put up in Washington, and he’s certainly a good play caller, but my understanding is that this is DeBoer’s offense regardless of who is calling the plays. If anything, I think Grubb seems to have a more pass-heavy approach than DeBoer or Sheridan, who have proven to be a bit more adaptable depending on the QB. Grubb basically was run out of town in Seattle because he threw the ball too much for that staff’s liking.
I’m excited for him as a play caller, but I think the base offense is still the same. I expect considerably more pass attempts per game this season than in 2024. Probably more like 35-40 as opposed to 20-25 like last season.
We really botched the entire QB room/plan after Bryce left. From CNS not listening to BOB about Milroe to not playing anyone else, to letting Rees bring in the horrible sub-walk on talent level guy from ND. The worst part about ND guy was that we should have spent every extra snap on Ty and getting him ready to play...People are foolish to make a determination on how successful DeBoers tenure will be at Alabama based on last season. His hands were tied with the issues Saban left him. You could see the frustration on his face during games trying to swallow this turd sandwich. This year he’s fair game.
And Ty was the backup at South Florida. The whole Rees starting that kid from ND was a disaster. No way they thought he was a D1 qb. Ty came in and saved the day and probably didn’t get near the practice snaps he needed to be prepared. He’s going to be just fine and win us a lot of games.
