Re: Penn State game

I have tickets for my wife & I to fly into Philadelphia on Friday, and back on Sunday. We have a car rented, and a hotel booked in Harrisburg. I am looking for bus transportation from Harrisburg to the game. Also, we don't have tickets yet, but I am not sweating that. Even if we don't get in the game, it will be an experience.

Re: Penn State game

My son and I are flying from Atlanta to Pittsburgh on Friday morning. We are staying in Pittsburgh and will try to take in a Pirates game on Friday night, wish they were playing the Braves but its the Marlins, then we will get up early and drive to State College appx. 180 miles, spend the day, then drive back, and fly back Sunday. I am hoping for a day game, the drive back after the night game could be rough. Since I am a frequent traveler, I got the flights, hotel, and rental car for basically no charge. Now I just got to find the tickets for the game. Should be a great time.

Re: Penn State game

I'm really disappointed because I wasn't able to get tickets. Last year we were able to buy 2 extra Penn State tickets beyond our normal Tide Pride allotment of 4. Looks like Penn State doesn't travel with their team like they used to back in the 80's. I'm glad Bama fans travel like we should. I just wish I could have gotten tickets because I had planned on going.

The Notre Dame-Michigan game is the 7:00 ESPN game and ABC has a NASCAR race that night.
Then we'll be on ESPN2 or the 3:00pm ABC game. Can't see this game NOT being on National TV. Last year's Bama/Penn State game was ESPN's 2nd most viewed Sat night game of the year (tOSU/Wisc was the highest).

So where will I wind up finding tix...stub hub, eBay? I am going to the Fla and aub games as well and would love to sit with fellow Tide fans but I don't know how to go about doing this...any suggestions?

I've bought tickets on eBay for several events and games in the past and it has always worked great.

Re: Penn State game

But how can you tell if you are in a Bama section? I guess hope it says so in the listing, right?
Sometimes the seller will put that in the listing, but to be certain I would find out where the visitor sections are located in that stadium from someone who would know and then look for tickets in those sections. All of the listings should include at least a section, row, and seat number even if the listing doesn't state if they are in an Alabama or Penn State section. It's not always the case, but a lot of times the seller's location will give you a good idea about which section the tickets are in. For example if the seller's location says State College, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, or some other place in Pennsylvania there is a pretty good chance that they are tickets that came from Penn State and will not be in an Alabama section.

Re: Penn State game

I'll be driving up from Pittsburgh, since I live here and all. And thankfully a bunch of friends from high school went to PSU so I'm tagging along with them.

If anyone is coming to the western half of the state (Pittsburgh-Harrisburg) and needs any advice from a local, just let me know, I'll try and help out all I can. I usually attend a couple of PSU games a year, so I'm pretty familiar with the drive and issues you'll run into getting there.

A couple of FYI's if your heading in from Pittsburgh, the drive will take roughly 3hrs. It's an easy drive, except that rt.22 can be a pain in the butt. It's not usually too bad, but it is a developed / somewhat congested area of Pittsburgh. That should really be the only issue driving there.

Also if you're looking to stay closer to State College, try looking in Altoona. It's only about a 45 minute to 1 hour drive from there.

Parking will not be an issue there there are cow pastures everywhere that you'll be able to park at. I'm not joking the stadium is in the middle of cow pastures. And State College is very much in the middle of nowhere. They put it in the geographic center of the state, meaning that there was really nothing there until the college came along.

Anyway fire away with the questions if you have them.

Well, you asked....

We are staying in Harrisburg. We will have a rental car. Would it be better to drive in & park or to park & take a bus into the stadium?

Also, we don't have tickets... any suggestions on where to watch the game if we don't score any between now and then?

I've personally nver had any issues driving in and parking, you will deal with a bunch of traffic, but that is to be expected. There are several places that you can park and catch a shuttle to the stadium, I can't directly think of any off hand, but they are efficient too.

As for where to watch if you don't get tickets. Never been an issue for me, but there are a couple of good sports bars in State College. Champs and The Arena are both decent, and both are off of North Atherton if I remember correctly (a little bit off campus). We usually stick around town and go to one of those places to watch the Steelers play on Sunday after PSU games.

State College is funny that way. Totally unified on Saturday and then totally divided between Pittsburgh and Philly fans on Sunday, well really every other day of the week as well.

Re: Penn State game

Probably going to drive over from Cleveland that morning and spend the day there even if we don't get tickets at a price I'm willing to pay.

Mrs. BamaNation and I went to the PSU - OSU game around 1997 or 1998 when OSU was ranked #1 and PSU #2. PSU won and became #1. Beautiful campus. Nice people. Great tailgating.

Re: Penn State game

3PM would be ideal. I hope it is so.
Could it still be 3pm and be a whiteout? I know they prefer to do them at night at all so I just have the feeling this is going to be a night game...

Any of you familiar with Penn State...do they also do whiteouts in the afternoons as well?
