Die , Rivals . Die ! :(

Shaun Alexander was so ineffective , he became MVP of the NFL .
You and those pesky facts!

But seriously, Glen should look into it of course (his draft status) and it it looks good then jump on it. I think he could/should have a very successful pro career.

I hope he does whenever his time comes but , I still have some concern when it comes to his durability . I think this was the first season he's managed to finish .

I asked a friend (from another program) about this yesterday. He had the same concern. Coffee even had problems this year, though he played in every game...

i don't mind saying that when we signed him, even though he was only a 3 star recruit, that he was going to be a stud. sometimes you can just look at the kid's picture and see something in his eyes...or maybe it was the afro he had in high school...but he had stud written all over him.

he could use another season like this year, that would move him solidly into the top 3 rounds.

Based on the timing of the draft, is it possible for Coffee to go through Spring Practice and have the benefit of practicing with a new QB and behind a new line?

BTW, my assessment on Coffee is similar to my opinion of SA. Neither has been overused in college yet I dont think either can be consistently effective in the NFL unless the have outstanding line play especially in the run game. Neither is as elusive as you would like them to be nor do that have breakaway speed needed in the NFL. I perceive SA better at receiving but Coffee being better at running between the tackles.

The way I see it is that Coffee is not really going to improve his stock next year if he stays because we will have less experienced OL and QB but we will quite likely pass the ball a little more next year. But on the other hand, barring injury, I dont think his stock will drop all that much either.

But if I was in his situation and this is how I viewed it, then I would probably look at going pro and taking my chances.
Did you ever see Shaun Alexander play at any level? GEEZZZ?

Yeah, he holds our all time rushing record, and, if only for a year, he held the single season touchdown record in the NFL. he was also good for several years before that. He was a mid first round draft pick, and i don't think anyone in the know in the NFL would argue that he was drafted too highly. he took them to the super bowl

that said... i think he was getting at the fact that in shaun's successful years shaun had GREAT line play. he's played with a few HOFer's (samuels, Walter Jones, Steve Hutchinson). That said, what great back (besides barry sanders) didn't have a great line? Nobody says emmit smith wasn't worth a first round pick, and he played with hall of famers all over the place on his line.

I realize you're quoting Bear Bryant here, but I would personally love to see a Heisman winner at Bama.
actually, I was poking at the folks here who cling to the quote that "we don't win Heisman's, we win Championships" as if they're the ones who are actually up for the award.

and when CPB said it, we actually were winning championships. ;)
