IF politics play the major role in hashing the lower-tier bowls out, I could see the SEC PTB's pushing Mississippi State into the Music City Bowl, freeing the Liberty to take us and leave Kentucky for the Indy Bowl. It'd be a rough hand for both Music City and Shreveport, because Kentucky would likely bring more folks to Nashville (though they played there last year) and Lexington is about a million miles from Shreveport.

I hope for Liberty. As if my desires counted. I have put my order in for tickets at all the possibles, and almost certainly will go and wear crimson around the town wherever we go.

fwiw, got a call from a contact in the memphis area and he said the liberty bowl people are 'chomping at the bit' to host us, and is as close to a done deal as it can get. The opportunity at a 25th anniversary reappearance by our team is something they really want. As Rob K said earlier, it will be a economic boon for the area with the influx of fans and that is the first thing they look at--potential economic impact and DOLLARS. Sorry, but State fans may be close geographically, but they will not dump nearly the amount of money into the Memphis metro area as the Bama contingent will....

From what I've heard also, the Liberty already had spoken with Paul Bryant Jr. and had plans to have him appear at Half-Time to accept an award on behalf of Coach Bryants 323rd and final win!

It makes total sense for the Liberty to pick us before Indy gets the chance.

Also, from a fan perspective and travel, I'd LOVE to go to Memphis Friday the 28th, go to the game and come home Sunday the 30th! That frankly is TOPS on my list given our few options.

I'm glad for the opportunity to go to a bowl due to the extra practice and revenue it brings BUT I don't think Alabama wants any part of Colorado or the winner of UCF/Tulsa.

Well who would we want a part of? No one comes to mind.

Maybe ND?;)

Winning is a bonus, the practice time is priceless regardless.

Wins and losses don't matter as much to recruits - exposure is king nowadays.
Nail on the head on both points. You gotta think the kind of exposure for a 25th anniversary of 323 would be huge and jump out to recruits. I know that I will only be trying to get tickets to a Tennessee bowl this year, I ain't going back to Shreveport.

Liberty would be nice, and would provide a more winnable game. Colorado's defense is too good; we would be lucky to score more than a couple of field goals against them. We might could actually move the football against UCF (who will beat Tulsa like a rented mule, bank it.) With our defense playing well, we would have a better chance to beat UCF if our offense can somehow get it together.

This can't be emphasized enough. As long a the team plays ok, winning or losing the game is pretty much meaningless. The extra practice time is truly priceless.

It is interesting, however, that Saban is choosing to concentrate on recruiting this week rather than working out the team. I think that says a lot about how important he feels this recruiting class is.

The only hitch to the Liberty Bowl snagging Alabama would be the SEC office politics. Shuffling Croom and MSU to the bottom of the bowl pecking order would likely generate some negative press. The Liberty Bowl had to scratch, claw, and beg their way to an SEC tie-in, and they may be hesitant to defy the wishes of the league office should Slive and company nudge MSU their way.
You could justify by saying that Alabama, MSU, and Arkansas all finished with 4-4 records within the SEC. Each of those three beat one of the other two and lost to the other. So technically, those three could go in any order.

The players are actually working out right now, but not practicing until they are sure of a bowl bid. My roommate is still waking up early every morning to get to the weight room. Trust me, there are people here who are working them out.
