Pictorial Evidence of the Apparent Current Definition of Targeting

Smith’s suspension for the next game should be contested. Even if it isn’t reversed, the next crew and replay officials would know they won’t get away with that type of crap. Until the ADs and coaches start calling the conference out for these types of calls, we’re going to continue having inconsistency from officials.

I've seen people treated better who have committed capital murder. I've never liked the rule that a player is kicked out of a game for a bang/bang play. Give the player a penalty, if they happen to get two penalties then eject them. Seperate the penalties similar to what the college rules do in basketball with flagrant fouls. Have Targeting 1 and Targeting 2 level penalties. If it is egregious enough then eject the player with only one offense.
At least they don’t treat it like they do in rugby, where they eject a player for either 10min or the entire game for “unsafe” tackles based on whether they tried to avoid it or not. And then the team has to play an entire man down for that 10min or the rest of the game. Talk about changing the entire game….

In the 2023 Rugby World Cup championship, New Zealand’s team captain was ejected 10min into the game for what would be a pretty typical tackle in football. They had to play a man down the entire rest of the game and still almost won. Talk about game changing, and for things that aren’t even intentional but simply the product of the vagaries of a free flowing physical sport.

They have to take away the booth-led review of targeting, and you simply cannot ever call it on a running play…ever. It’s football. If the refs miss an obvious targeting penalty on a passing play with a defenseless receiver, then so be it, but calling it on a running play is just weak. Where does it end?

Luckily it’s just the 1st half

This is the worst no-call I have ever seen. You can see the helmets flex in the second angle. How in the world was this ruled not targeting. Every single ref and booth review ref in this game should be fired.
This is tied with what UT did to Bryce Young as he was sliding to give himself up that didn’t result in a call during The Great Rig Job of 2022 and solidified my putrid distaste for anything related to Jason Autrey down to his fifth cousin. It was as bad and Bryce was fortunate to get back up from it.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. This rule being about safety is a farce. It is solely intended to skew the game more towards the offense and make it that much harder on the defense.
If this rule were about the safety of the player they would call it against the running backs who use their heads as a battering ram and receivers who do the same.

Yeah we ate up half of the first quarter against the uga defense. Surely we can do it against Vandy...
I hate not having him the first half, but we have guys we can play and then he will be fresh for the whole of the second half at least. It's more about the assignments for us this week, and our 'backers need to get it together fast.
