I was at most of the games at the watching parties in Grapevine, did you go to any of them? Cause if you did, theres a chance we've met!

I was there for many of those. I missed Ole Miss and Utah State because we went to the Baylor games those days (my wife went to Baylor). Then we missed the LSU and Auburn games because our baby decided to come two months early!

We were the ones sitting at the very front of one of those long tables in front. I always had my SEC Athlon Sports magazine to read up on the opposing teams, and my Alabama Media Guide.

Pappadeaux is not cajun, it's just seafood.

If you want really good Cajun food go to Dodies on greenville, but you'll have to put up the the LSU flags and memorabilia, best Cajun food I've had outside of N.O.

A second, third, and tenth vote for Bobs. It is incredible, don't let the look of the bldg. fool you. Get your reservations early.

Desperados is good, this native San Antonio person would recommend Ojedas, Herrerras, or Avilas on Maple before Desperados. Blue Goose is terrible, might as well just get some frozen El Patio from the store and nuke it (my opinion, I know its a popular place).

There really is NOT a lot of great BBQ in Dallas - Sonny Bryans and Dickeys are local chains that are good enough. Bakers Ribs is popular, the only place you are going to get primarily pork BBQ is Red-Hot-& Blueon 75 and Walnut Hill. There is a very good BBQ joint downtown behind the Fed building calles Sammys, there is also one in Preston Center (NW Hwy and Preston Road).

For nightlife I recommend west end (touristy but good for out of towners, very few locals go there), Uptown (near downtown, good 30-40 professional mix, go to The Gingerman or TABC), Deep Ellum (good for students and 20-30s, ecelctic mix of bars & restaurants, best honky-tonk country bar in Dallas is there - Adairs), or Greenville Avenue, which extends from Ross all the way up to Mockingbird, anyone would be comfortable here. If you are looking for a really posh place to drink that is not crowded or insane, hit The Library Bar in the Melrose hotel. There is a Gilleys (of Urban Cowboy fame) near downton across I30 that is Dallas' answer to Billy Bobs Texas in Fort Worth, a good Texas singer-songwriter is playing New Year Eve - Jack Ingram, if you like the Driveby Truckers or Robert Earl Keen or Cross Canadian Ragweed or Chris Knight, you would probaby enjoy this for NY Eve.

Directly from their website: "Pappadeaux features the perfect balance of Cajun and Creole seafood direct from the Gulf Coast waters and served mesquite-grilled, charbroiled or blackened. Favorites include shrimp, catfish, oysters and seafood platters, in addition to gumbo, etouffee and our homemade signature desserts."

It's great!

Cotton Bowl Info- Hotels, Food, Drink, area transportation, etc...

Does anyone know anything about the Adams Mark Hotel? It seems close to the Cotton Bowl but I didn't know what kind of shape it was in.

Thanks.

Nice business hotel. Recently (within last 5-7 years) renovated. Not much around it at night (downtown is deserted after working hours).

Not a bad hotel. Just make sure you ask that no renovations are being done. They should not be as the last time I was there 2 years ago they had just finished.

It is in the Central Business District about 2 miles from the CB. Downtown does not empty out after 6PM as bad as it did 5 years ago. I had a loft downtown and a lot of new restaurants and clubs have opened over the past 3 years.

You have to consider that most of this bowl bashing is a result of them not going bowling this year. In other words, their comments are biased.

I bet you they were whistling a different toon this time last year ;)

Keep in mind, if you have been to Legion Field you will not have any problems with the Cotton Bowl. The neighborhood around legion field is no better than Fair Park. The Dallas PD will be out in force making sure our experience is awesome. I would not park in someones yard b/c chances are the person selling the parking does not own the house.

If you want to be smart, take the DART train DT and then catch the shuttle to the CB. First one arrives at 7:10AM. Well worth the $4.50 price.

DART to the Cotton Bowl

I plan on taking DART to the game. Sure beats all the traffic jams and saves $15 on parking.

http://www.dart.org/cottonbowl.asp

For those of you staying at the Hyatt, Union Station is right next door. You can take the DART train across downtown to Pearl St and hop the shuttle. The total trip should take no more than 15-20 minutes.

Most of the other downtown hotels are within a couple of blocks of a DART stop. If you were smart enough to be a BAMA fan instead of an auburn fan, you can figure out DART.

ROLL TIDE......

I was there almost every game, wearing the #37 Shaun alexander jersey. After the tennessee game, I led the rammer jammer cheer.....I blame that one on the drink specials!!! :)

Your hotel is ight off of 635. You can take 635 North/West to the park and ride at Skillman. It would be about a 15 minute drive. You can then hop the Blue line train down to Pearl St. and catch the shuttle to the game.

Tide-N-Texas, Pappadeaux is good, who cares what their website says, it is more of a straight seafood place than cajun, though they certainly have some cajun dishes. They do not have one thing on their menu that can compare to the catfish orleans at Dodies. If you have not tried Dodies I highly recommend it. Yes pappadeaux is good, but the best cajun, and true cajun food, in Dallas is Dodies; though the shrimp brochette at Pappadeaux is outstanding. Give Dodies a shot, just pay no attention to all the LSU stuff :p

I have advocated on other threads and will do so again, the DART is a great way to go to the game if you are not planning to tailgate.

go to www.dart.org and look for rail stations near your hotel, they will have a place to park and you can ride from there.

if you are downtown you can likely walk to the pearl station, though this might be too long a walk from the reunion hotel (next to the tower, not sure if it is a hyatt or hilton now).

Looking forward to seeing a good # of Tide fans in Dallas for New Years.

I'm a lifelong Tide fan, Texan, and Dallas resident for 10 years and have been to just about every CB game the last 8 years, if anyone has any questions e-mail me and I will help however I can. jpburchfieldiv@yahoo.com

Re: the Cotton Bowl, it's not as bad as the threat on that A&M site makes it out to be. It is still a very prestigious bowl that teams love to get to. They just need to update the stadium a little bit, but it is still tradition rich, a great stadium to watch a game, and I'd rather sit in freezing rain than watch a game indoors any day, though certainly the weather could be better at some of the other bowls Bama had a shot at. 2 years ago I was at the Ok. St. / Ole Miss CB and it was 64 and sunny. Last year it was low 50s and overcase but no precipatation, perfect football weather. It'll be fine and you'll have a great time.

Roll Tide!

Cotton Bowl - Save $ Stay in the 'burbs

I've lived in the Dallas area for 11 years and thought I would give some advice. Outside of the West End their is not really much to do in Dallas. The city of Dallas has socked it to the Hotels & Rental Car companies with taxes (to pay for the American Airlines Center). You'd come out ahead $$ by staying in Richardson, Plano or Addison. They are not that far north and probably worth it.

The Regal Beagle is a good one too. We need to try to get together on Saturday night on Greenville somewhere. I have about 12 Bama fans already rounded up!
