Herd immunity is largely what Public Health against transmissible diseases is based upon. It's why we don't need 100% vaccination for diseases like Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox, Polio, etc., since babies and some immuno-compromised people cannot receive a vaccine. Herd immunity is also what slows and sometimes stops a COVID strain from continuing to evolve and rip through our country. I get being nervous about shots and vaccines, and asking questions is definitely a good idea, but the effectiveness of getting vaccinations to help with herd immunity means you're not simply getting a vaccine for yourself.
