Really kind of stupid. Bears have never been known to ambush hikers/bikers/runners. OTOH cougars regularly have. Should be a mountain lion feasting...
Maybe he "provoked" the bear......been known to happen......stupid humans.......Really kind of stupid. Bears have never been known to ambush hikers/bikers/runners. OTOH cougars regularly have. Should be a mountain lion feasting...
Not unless he detoured off the path and went out of his way. I really have a lot of first hand bear experience. I backpacked thousands of miles...Maybe he "provoked" the bear......been known to happen......stupid humans.......
And how many of them attempted to steal your pic-a-nic baskets? I know of at least one who isn’t your “average bear.”Not unless he detoured off the path and went out of his way. I really have a lot of first hand bear experience. I backpacked thousands of miles...
I have a coworker that is going hiking up in Colorado this weekend and we have been making jokes all week about her and her boyfriend getting eaten by bears or mountain lions. Perfect timing.
You missed the point entirely. Bears are all about food. One broke into our hung food bag on our honeymoon in the Wind River Range, mid 80s. Years later a huge boar stole her pack at Sheep Pen Gap in the Smokys. I'd driven him off with rocks several times, but he came back at night and stole her (empty) pack. (I'd rocked the Wyoming bear also.) But, attack a runner like a cougar, no way. There have been only a single handful of predatory black bear attacks on humans in this country in known history. I wasn't kidding when I said knew black bears...And how many of them attempted to steal your pic-a-nic baskets? I know of at least one who isn’t your “average bear.”

That's the secret - never run. Stand your ground, especially with black bear. They have enough of a predatory instinct that they will chase anything that runs from them. Different rules with grizzlies...go to youtube and type in bear chases cyclist.

And even they don't detour onto paths. Now, maybe if it were in the path. And color doesn't determine. It doesn't have the characteristic hump. It's just a generic cartoon bear, a joke. Damn! Have any of you bear experts even been near one, like out in the wild, just you and the bear, no fence between you? I didn't think so...It is a grizzly in the video
