What is encouraging about MLB players already coming down with COVID-19 when teams have just barely started working together? Plus more and more players opting out completely. How much worse will it get between now and the proposed start?
The fact they haven't pulled the plug on their season AND players testing positive are two different things.

I just meant they haven't pulled the plug yet on their season. That's all I meant.

The situation continues to worsen so day by day this will probably change and, no, it doesn't look good.

While I do believe things will get back to a form of normal eventually (May take a year or so) I don’t have a good outlook on sports in general these days. To see my view you can scroll back on this thread to one of the earlier pages if you’d like.

Not a political statement:

If you want football this fall then put on your mask, physically distance yourself, and follow the advice of competent healthcare professionals everywhere.

If we all do not do these things and encourage others to do the same we won't have football this year. It may already be too late, but we all need to do our part.

And unfortunately it will not happen from what we have seen so far. People can not make sacrifices for the greater good anymore. We are a selfish society. Sorry if political.

I voted that there would be a season at first, but now I don't think there will be. No one social distanced over the weekend for Independence Day, and I get that. We are now seeing a spike with less than two months until football season is supposed to begin. The opening game against USC has been canceled and conferences are already going to conference-only. I just don't see it happening now. A month ago, I would have still said we are going to have a season, but I don't think so anymore.

The SEC commissioner released a statement telling people of they do not wear masks and distance themselves then we will not have football this season. Based upon how well I see people follow the state of Alabama's very simple guidelines on a daily basis, I think people will not respond well to the commissioners message.

I have an idea to get mask-wearing where it needs to be:

Pit rival schools against each other to see which fan-base can be in the most compliance. Maybe have the winning school get a donation of PPE made in their name to a local hospital system. Let it be up to smarter people to figure out how to implement the competition to where you can't cheat it.

But yeah...gotta play fan pride against their will to be stubborn about masks. If it's a person vs. the government, it will depend on their opinion of the government. But if it's a fan vs. their rival school, and they could help win? Way more compliance that way, I'd bet.

Or I could be way off....

What's to become of college basketball? If football can't happen, then certainly basketball won't either. Another year of no NCAA tournament, possibly?

It is possible. If they push football back to the spring they can push basketball and the other spring sports to summer IMO.
