poll on coach shula

I would rather have rings that say we competed in every game than rings that said "2004 - we lost all of our important starters to injury so we gave up and got blew out by 30 points in every game"

Some fans just cant accept that fact that no matter how good the coach is, he cant win with half-@$$ talent. If we possible to win national championships during probabtion then they wouldnt even bother handing out penalties. Maybe we can split the scholarships in half and get guys to pay half their ride just because we are "Bama" lol. Then will have third string QBs that can beat the best of the SEC

does not matter to some of the Bama faithful who believe we should win without players and without scholarships.
Exactly, Alanbama27. Coaches can't win ball games by themselves. They come up with the plan, and the players need to execute. If a coach doesn't have the players he needs to successfully execute his plan (sanctions, injuries...) it doesn't matter who the coach is.

You are preaching to the choir. I am amazed at what I see being built at the Capstone. Ther ehave been references (premature at this point) to comparing Shula to the "Bear" or even Stallings.

He is building something, and right now, in spite of potential troubles next year, that we will be amazaed by. In 10 years, I think we will be listening to and reading about how the Shula dynasty has eclipsed the SEC in a manner not seen since Spurrier's decade of dominance and Bryant's era of greatness.

Take that to the bank!

What potential troubles next year? We are going to be LOADED next year. Our D is going to be incredible. If our offense is not MUCH improved then something is wrong! We should beat florida(first yr. staff), sc(first yr. staff), tn(need to finish the job this time),lsu(first yr. staff) and auburn(they lose everyone of importance). We should win 9 - 10 games. We should win the west and play for the sec championship. I really believe this and its not crimson glasses. Look at the facts.

BTW, I think we were very well coached this year on both sides of the ball.

Potential troubles next year ?

We are still short players. We do not have the depth needed to compete for the west title if we have any injuries to starters. Simple as that. We don't have the players for a ten win season. That is just the straight up truth. If we are not killed by the injury bug, then we may be able to win 9-10.

Until he gets rid of Rader and gets an OC that is great, not just mediocre will I believe that Shula will be a great HC...you have to surround yourself with great assistants and great players...

It's not possible...

to define - for those are determined not to see - what Rader's role really is. Last year, it was "if he'd only get rid of Kines." Haven't heard much of that lately...

I dont see our offense being world beaters since we are losing almost all of our starters up front. If newcomers dont step up and get the job done then brodie will get his block knocked off.

The key word in your post is "IF". You 100% right. If they dont step up BC and the team will be in trouble. "IF" they do step up then what?

No one thought our D was going to be one of the top 5 in the country this. There were a lot of 'IF's" on the D going in to the year. The only postion that looked set was LB. Well the we had people step on the line( Rudy,Bates,Gillberry, etc..) and in the secondary (Robinson,Harper, and Castille) and offense there were a lot of "IF's" to. were we going to have a O-line worth a crap, would BC live up to his potential, who would catch the ball, who would the run the ball? A lot more "IF"s" going in to this season than next season. The only "IF's" next season is the O-line. The coaching staff needs to find 3 players to step up. Just 3 next season for us to be a real good team. Thats "IF" we stay healthy.

Maybe just maybe the rough waters will work to Shula's favor?

Suppose he came to T-Town with zero head coaching experience during a stable period, like Curry, and was expected to win NC's and 10 games during his first three years, I doubt he would have made it. He is or is close to the youngest Div I coach in the country.

Now I predict he will be given two more years than normal from the powers to be and fans. So he might get five or six years to get the ball rolling instead of the normal three for the Bama's of the world.

Those two years might just be what the doctor ordered and allowed him to grow into the job.

Just a thought.

how about the name Butch Davis????
I think he would have been a great fit at Bama, too bad we blew it.

Coming soon to a message board near you!!!

Richard Nixon was innocent.

Come on now, AG. You need to take a few minutes and review that story again.

As to next year, we do have to replace 3 OL. This time last year, I would be terrified at that thought. However, after watching players like Martz play virtually mistake free football sometimes, I'm not as worried as I could be.

Chris Capps played very well this year. I look at it as we are only replacing 2 o linemen. You may be thinking that Capps is no Britt, but that remains to be seen. Like you said, Martz was a man this year and he came out of nowhere to be the best lineman in the conference IMO.

Calling Coach Raider 'mediocre' means calling the judgement of Coach Shula 'mediocre.' If you really think that his decision-making ability is that bad, then I'm sure the firemikeshula.com domain is available...

You are entitled to your own opinions. You are not entitled to your own facts.

Ok, then I stand by what I said...Coach Shula's play calling is mediocre...I don't want to fire the man for God's sake...but how can you sit there and tell me that Shula's play calling was anything but mediocre??????

I can hope for bigger and better play calling next year that's for sure

troll

More on being a troll, a very interesting topic. Here are some definitions for those that have been called a troll or are trolling. Most everyone will be called a troll sometime during their lifetime. It's time to get educated.

c2.com
A troll is deliberately crafted to provoke others with the intention of wasting their time and energy. A troll is a time thief. To troll is to steal from people. That is what makes trolling heinous.

Trolls can be identified by their disengagement from a conversation or argument. They do not believe what they say, but merely say it for effect.

Trolls are motivated by a desire for attention by people and can't or won't acquire it in a productive manner.

Someone may be insufferable, infuriating, fanatical, and an ignorant idiot to boot without being a troll.

Also note that a troll isn't necessarily insulting, snide, or even impolite. Only the crudest, most obvious, forms of trolling can be identified so easily.

If you find yourself patiently explaining, at length and in great detail, some obscure point to someone who isn't even being polite to you, then you are probably being trolled.
