It was intentional and he Les knows it. You are not going to tell me that he was not told by assistant coaches after the game, who have access to replay I believe, what really happened. The guy needs to ride the bench and write a letter of apology to the young man he close-lined, could of really hurt him. Looks like Les has lost any control or integrity he had left....which was not much.

Saw this and after watching a replay, I wonder if Boutte just didn't think the play was over.

Article
At first, I thought so too. The thing that makes me wonder was when, after the hit, and the flags and the benches starting to clear, Boutte was taunting the Wisconsin players, with his hands up, flicking his fingers at them saying, "Come on. Come on." I'm inclined to give Boutte the benefit of the doubt, but I did not see a look of regret and that little taunting gesture was not the act of someone who had just realized he had cheap-shotted an opposing player.

I don't know how one could give him the benefit.

I don't know how one could give him the benefit.
A friend showed it to me on his smart phone, without the post play chatter and gesturing.
When I went back and watched the full play and game speed, and saw his post-play antics, I thought what I do now.
What did the Bama player who came off the bench to tackle a Rice player do after the play was over. he went back to the bench and tried to hide behind his teammates. He knew he had screwed up and wanted a hole to crawl into. That showed contrition and regret.
Boutte showed, "Yea? Y'all see that? I laid your teammate out. Y'all want some more?"
I believe the Conference will have something to say about his before all is said and done.

I hope so. It was bad. I actually missed it initially. Once I saw the review, I knew it. He had to go. Game was really over so I am sure something is going to come down on them.

I'm gracious to everyone, even LSU. If you look at the game thread I said this.

But then I watched it. A dozen times.

First, he had a clear line of vision. He saw the guy go down and come up. This is NOT the NFL, he doesn't play in a league where if the guy isn't touched, he's down. Secondly - nobody from Wisky was trying to block him. If he really thought there was a pick, he would have expected to get snowballed or at least attempted. He ran right past two guys who were pointed the other way and another guy celebrating. He also had to have seen not one but TWO of his own teammates paused. And finally, there's no way the guy would have cut back to try and score a TD, he had a clear path. Granted, the Wisky guy should have set the ball down and THEN celebrated, but he didn't deserve to get popped like that.

I'm sure he was frustrated - but this was on a par with Dustin McClintock punching the guy after the game on the ground.

I can find no way to justify it or even think he made 'an honest mistake.' I want to, but the evidence isn't there.

You saw exactly what I saw.

Guy knew exactly what he was doing. One of the dirtiest lack of class things I have ever seen done on the field. They were beat he knew it and he acted out like a immature child would do. I personally would expect Saban to dismiss a player at Bama if they did this.

I ain't reading the article nor all the posts in this thread. I'll say this and that's all I'll say in reply.

If he's dumb enough to not realize the play was dead with other players in both uniforms standing upright, hands down and disengaged then he should be tested for brain function. He's guilty of being STUPID and not very well coached on top of it. I'd suspend him for multiple games and he'd be on probation for risk of losing his athletic scholly. That was blatant and intended to injure the opposing player. And it very well could have done so. Fortunately the kid was OK and able to continue.

That action was pathetic. One game ain't even close to enough.

The way he acted after the hit was not like a guy who just accidentally played past the whistle...

I think it was intentional and the guy has some issues that need to be worked out. He could have seriously injured that kid.
Exactly, it was a felony in my book and he should be banned from football forever. And good riddance too.

ps I ain't buying "he is just a kid" and all those excuses.

He literally just assaulted the guy. Pure and simple. If they weren't in uniforms, he would've been carried out in cuffs.

We saw it live when it happened and there was NO doubt it was malicious. He didn't start showing remorse until he realized he was in big trouble, much like my juvenile criminal clients when they find out they are headed to an out of home placement.

This, too.

If he would have looked flabbergasted, and went up and tried to check on the guy right then, I could buy the 'he didn't realize it' argument. But he acted EXACTLY as you expect a guilty person to act.

Les Miles is Tuberville 2.0. LSU admin messed up and created an emotional kickback..........Miles is gone after the season. I still like him as an ESPN game day man, he will be a good one. But LSU continues to slide

I saw it as a cheap shot for the on the field celebration. Vicious hit. Uncalled for.
Do I think he knew the play was over? Yes.

Giving the guy some lee way I still have to say the hit was enough for an ejection.
I put this play in the same category as the USC player stomping the groin of one of our players. Cheap shot deserved ejection.
