Potential final ranking prognostication

I'm just not comfortable making any prognostications at all until that Iron Bowl is in the books. I know college football fans from all over the country think they understand "rivalry" games, but I contend that the Iron Bowl has something additional in it. There is some kind of meta-physical energy that transfers during that game, something in the entire universe shifts.

Could just be refs, I don't know.

For now, beat Eastern Illinois. Try to improve on some things we've dropped off in over the last 4 weeks - stop putting the ball on the ground.

This all day long… If the SEC champion is not in the top 4 seeds and/or the loser of the game is left out of the playoffs I can see this year being the last year the game is played.
What you're saying makes too much sense. The modern version of college football is to appease the big markets and northern markets, and crush down the southern schools. The SEC simply became too powerful.
I blame Texas. :D

There is absolutely some truth to this. Even the blaming Texas part because you can legitimately blame Texas for anything.

Yeah, I agree!

Too many here are looking past awbern...and with them basically having three weeks to prepare for their "Super Bowl" game against us, it's starting to look like a trap game! 🤔

Remember, Jason Autrey officiated that game two years ago and it took a gravedigger to save us!😎

I know it’s already been talked about, but I just have to put my two cents in on the comparison between Alabama and Notre Dame to illustrate just how lopsided that comparison is.

Vs Top 25
Bama 4-1
ND 1-2

Vs Top 20
Bama 3-1
ND 1-2

Vs Top 15
Bama 2-1
ND 1-2

Vs Top 10
Bama 1-1
ND 0-1

Vs Top 5
Bama 1-0
ND 0-1

In no way, can a rational objective individual rank that 8-2 Notre Dame team above that 8-2 Alabama team, much less a consensus of twelve rational objective individuals. I hated the idea of a committee to determine playoff participants from the start, and thought using BCS to determine participants was a far more objective method. Still think so. Humans just far too often get it too wrong with all their feelings and eye tests.

One might say it doesn’t matter how they order Alabama with regard to Notre Dame - beat auburn and we’re in, lose and we’re out. But by putting us on the bubble - essentially last team in, I’m not so sure beating auburn will be enough if we go on to lose the SECCG. Of course, supposedly, a precedent was set last year with SMU - a championship game loss shouldn’t count against you. But I’ll believe it in the case of Alabama when I see it.

IMHO, if we have three losses, I don't see us making the playoff either.... 😎

I don't think anyone is looking past Auburn. None of what everyone is discussing is relevant unless we beat Auburn, which to your point is far from a forgone conclusion.

With that said, if we do beat Auburn, then I think we are in unless the Big 12 throws a wrench into the plans.
