Good post. So, what is the answer for we fans in the SEC? Sure, inclusion is good but not when you are talking about the National Champions. At this point, our conference reigns supreme in strength, talented athletes and coaches. We need to have our own invitational tournament and let the rest of the field do what they want. No sense in carrying on this charade any longer.
Well, first the SEC needs a leader that knows what he's doing. Thus far he's been behind on his moves.
They let Alabama's SoS get ignored last year, and did nothing to solve the problem. They got the committee to play lip service to it, they are supposed to be using some sort of calculation, but that seems to be meaningless to them. Rather than see if this change actually did anything, the SEC barrelled forward with a 9th conference game.
Just look at the playoff rankings.
Texas A&M has the highest SoS of any undefeated team. They are ranked
third.
Ole Miss with an SoS of 34 sits
two spots below Texas Tech with an SoS of 71.
Alabama with an SoS of 6 sits below Notre Dame with an SoS of 27.
Finally, Vanderbilt with an SoS of 25 sits below Utah with an SoS of 52.
I'm just comparing equal records here, what happens when half the SEC picks up another loss once the new SEC schedule starts? Truth is the SEC boxed themselves into a corner as soon as they added Oklahoma and Texas and they weren't thinking far enough ahead to sort this out.
So yes, they might have to do something drastic, otherwise they live in a world where the Big 12, after losing all their best teams, might get 3 teams in or something stupid like that, and the SEC might only get 4. It's dumb, it makes no sense, but it doesn't have to unfortunately.
