:conf3: Haven't posted in a while but I been reading and I was reading one post where a poster said we had potential problems next year and I got nervous as it was the first I had heard of any future problems. Any info would help???

don't know the thread you are referring to, but i'd guess it's in reference to the fact that next year is supposed to be the big "down" year from the sanctions. other than that, i can't say. in reference to the sanctions, however, it looks like our defense will return almost everyone and be rock solid. having said that, how much worse could our offense be next year than it was this year? i know we lose a bunch on the o-line, but we'll have more experience in the wideout corps and if brodie returns full strength, we'll also have more depth at qb, considering that spencer got a lot of valuable experience, and contrary to what many may think, he showed improvement as the games went on. again, injuries will play a big role, but i think at least we can have another winning season and go to a bowl. 7-4 is totally realistic, with 8 or 9 wins a possibility.

We lose three seniors off of the offensive line, so rebuilding the line is a priority. Getting Brodie back healthy is a concern, as is finding a back-up QB, getting Castille back healthy and finding good RB recruits to help out him and Darby.

capitol,
if brodie can come back and stay healthy and if castille recovers (i think there's more chance for brodie than tim, as i've heard his injury was HORRIBLE) then our offense will be better than it was last year...how could it not be? our d will be very good if not great. that's why i'm saying that our record from this year will likely be mirrored next year. i was wrong this pre-season in saying that with brodie, tim, ray, that we'd only be 6-5 or 7-4. if they'd been healthy, then we'd be a 9 win team. knowing how putrid our offense was this year, if we get brodie back and have some depth at tailback (and it seems we will with darby, johns, coffee, and sharrief) then even with the losses on the line, we can still be a winning team. i just hope everyone realizes that next year is THE year that the sanctions were supposed to hurt us. i'll be happy with another bowl game next season...whatever the record. shula and company did a good job this year all things considered. if he can post two bowl seasons back to back under all this adversity, then i say extend his contract. It may not be as bad as you think. If the speculation regarding Saban is true, then Alabama will face all four SEC teams who have first year head coaches. I don't think anyone else does.

I'm sure all of them will succeed one day, but that first year after taking over a program is always tough.

Ya

I'm usually a pessimist but I just don't buy it. I don't think next year will be a down year. Offensive will be hardest hit but it won't be a knockout blow and so what if we have to throw the ball a little more. Defensive will be solid. Backfield should be more solid. Heck, we almost beat Tenn., LSU, and Auburn this year. I look for us to beat one of those teams next year.

I was optimistic about this 2004 season and despite the injury plague, I feel good about the season now that it's almost over and we are going to a bowl.

As for 2005, I feel really good about it because of the experience some of our young guys got this year and the talent that is returning. Just think what Darby is going to be like next year and our WR's if Brodie remains healthy. Granted, we lose some studs off the the O-Line but their backups got to see alot of action this year and didn't look bad. Our Defense should be awesome next year, especially if we get some of our 2004 recruits back.

Also, I think our coaching staff will be better prepared in 2005 as far as having a solid backup at QB should Brodie go down again.

We should be a strong contender next year in the SEC so no, no problems.

I expect to go bowling next year, but that is about as far as I can go. While we will have more experience next year in skill positions, we will remain dangerously thin. That combined with the inevitable injuries, slightly stronger schedule, and so on leads me to another 6-5ish season.

Now, 2006... watch out.

the O-Line in 2005 will be as thin as it has ever been at BAMA. that, in itself, is enough to make me worry about next year.

we also need a new placekicker i believe. hopefully, someone has their kicking shoes on right now and is already practicing in the backyard.

We need some unstoppable D-Linemen. Right now we don't really have that X-factor in the pass rush. it would be nice if one of these new guys can come in and do what Gilberry has done. It would make the defense, basically, a mother.

all other parts of the team seem to be taken care of.

I agree with you 100%. The O-line will be a major concern and espically if we have injuries. If Brodie stays healty that will help our line running the ball. Teams want be able to stack the line. On the flip side, if they cant pass block then BC might be on the sideline again

The only weak spot on the D was not a strong, consist pass rush from our front 4. I also hope that we would get some help fromn a freshmen but its rare that a true freshmen comes in and is a impact pass rusher. Maybe WG will really step up and have a huge year.

2005 schedule:
- Middle Tenn
- So Miss
- So Carolina...new coach
- Arkansas
- Florida...new coach
- Ole Miss...new coach
- Tenn
- Utah St...new coach
- Miss St
- LSU...potential new coach
- barn...

we play 4 teams with new coaches and potentially 5 if saban leaves lsu...
we get tenn, lsu, fla, ark at home...
our top notch defense returns basically in tact
offense should be better next year
we have a great coaching staff in place
they will be in their 3rd year at Bama
we're out from under sanctions
our recruiting is good...great according to some
we get many of our strong opponents at home...
we will face new coaches...
why shouldn't we as Bama fans expect to win at least 9 games next year
have we lowered our expectations that much
have we become like the barn and adopted the 'wait til next year' syndrome
boys and girls it's time to roll..no more excuses

I am with BAMA skins

I find it hard to believe that depth will be a problem at OL!! Heck we got 6-7 recruited this year and how many red-shirted last year?? The experience is the key not the depth. Considering how much we lost in the backfield last year the OL will take care of itself. We got some hosses coming back and we got some great talent redshirted and recruited. I look for a very strong season next year with maybe 2 losses at most.
Now thats not to say if we have the injury bug again but with JPW and JB coming in along with SP getting all the experience we wont have the QB nightmare again and if we sign UPCHURCH (hopefully) we are set!! I am looking for just one more strong TE as we seem to be devastated at that position every year! ;)

Am I missing something?

What is all this "if Brodie comes back" talk...Everything I have heard from him has been to the affirmative....Does anyone know something I don't? I have a brother-in-law that is a die-hard Ole Myth fan, and he swears up and down that Brodie is not coming back. We have argued now for weeks about this and please tell me I am right.

Brodie has made it perfectly clear in the Press and to his coaches and team mates that he intends to do everything possible to be back on the field albeit in a somewhat limited physical status by Spring practice. The people that are saying they hope he comes back mean physically able to come back to his pre-injury status. Sometimes with bad knee injuries no matter what the person wants to do the knee won't let it happen as fast or even as well as before the injury. We are all hoping and praying for the best for Brodie.
