If Milroe could just put it all together and bcome more consistent, he would be a terror for defenses. We do have two qbs who have won SEC games. We also have two qbs that stepped up when the moementum shifted against them. Milroe got wins over Arkansas and Aggies. When Arky was making a come back he stepped up and took the game over. Buchner had a couple of tipped balls in the So. Carolina game that were intercepted. He was never rattled. Everytime the gamecocks would go up, he would ball out. I admit I will be nervous for the first couple of games, but I believe it will all work out.

I'm thinking Buchner will win the starting job - if not by MTSU, then by UT.

Questions about the offense - does anything look noticeably different with Rees as OC? More play-action passes? TEs more involved? Smashmouth running game?

Condensed QB observations from the scrimmage :

If Simpson can move the ball with the 2s against the 1s and Milroe can’t with the 1s against the 2s, that should tell us everything.

After today, I would go with #3 / #80 / #24 / #11 at WR
Looking at that play chart, I see why QB play is inconsistent. How can you build chemistry and develop timing when there are 5 QB’s getting reps. Makes no sense. Also, when 5 different guys are throwing the ball, it’s hard for receivers to get to know the ball coming to their hands. I don’t get it, it’s late in fall practice, another week and it’s game week and game plan install, the first team QB or at least the first and second string guys should be getting 50% of the reps in practice.

Saban and “no sense” don’t really go together.

I get that, but can you make sense of 5 QB’s taking meaningful snaps in a scrimmage this deep into fall practice? It’s not A-day, the season starts in 13 days .they only get so many practice hours per week

Well for one thing it’s leaving out alot of context and is leaving out alot of plays.

The scrimmage started with Milroe taking two series with the #1 offense going against the #2 defense and Simpson going with the #2 offense going against the #1 defense for 2 drives.

Then TB went for two series with the #1 offense vs #2 defense and Lonergan with #2 offense vs #1 defense.

basically it went this way with each of the 4 having an opportunity with the #1 offense at some point.

Then they all played goal line offense for about 20 minutes. And ended on 2 minute drills.

At some point you have to let that go.
And with Golding he won one, played for another, and was 2 plays away from a third.
Good luck with that. I am not saying Colby falls under this category. But there are other fans that absolutely refuse to let the fact that he was here go. I am not kidding you. They just go on and on and on and on and on about it. Like, the fact that saban hired Golding is some death sentence that no matter what Nick Saban does from here until the end of his career. We are all doomed now. I know Golding wasn't good, but fans act like he got us put on some SMU like death sentence.

There are many good points made in this thread… Playing different QBs does not allow for a chemistry and timing to develop. An additional thought how much of offensive inconsistency is due to our defense. Everything at some point will level out and we should be fine. The question is when.

Welp.....all I can say is this.......

On September 2, 2023, sometime around 6:30.....we'll see a QB run out to lead the offense for Alabama for the first drive of the season. Hopefully we win the toss and defer, just to draw it out a little longer.

The same things win that always win.

Saban knows how to win, he'll get the boys in the best position possible. Its up to them to make the plays. Milroe/Simpson/Buchner/Lonergan......just don't turn the ball over and don't stare receivers down.

WR's....catch the ball.

DL....you've got the best 7 guys behind you possibly in the country....bring the heat.

I have not seen anyone mention Jacorey Brooks. Is he not playing? What about Robbie Ouzts?

Brooks is still here, I think he is behind Malik Benson right now. Guy at the scrimmage said the first WR group was Benson, Burton, and Prentice. Outz caught a touchdown from Buchner during goal line drills during the scrimmage (Per guy at the scrimmage on another site).

Different people are evaluating different things. Based on their experience, their frame of reference, and their agenda, they see or don’t see what they are specifically looking for. My guess would be that Coach wants to give Sark absolutely zero to plan for.

we have warts. But two weeks before, who doesn’t?

Right now if I am UT, I can’t plan for anything. They know zero

I'm a little surprised at Brooks not being in the first rotation. I know last season doesn't matter but I think he was more consistent than Burton. Maybe that's good news on Burton's progress in our system.

Don’t want to beat a dead horse here, but I still believe we won that national championship despite Golding; the Florida game was an absolute defensive embarrassment that season. I also believe we likely picked up one more championship with a better defense. I know this thread isn’t the time or place and I’m ready to move on and feel really good about what we have now!
