Prayer at the Inauguration

Why can't the smoker move since he is in or near a non-smoking section ;)

btw, excellent rant!

sorry, i was in mid rant.. I had the smoker already in a smoking section(in my mind) and the non smoker that came and sat too close to it or even in it I suppose, and complaining that the smoker should leave. It happens believe me. Many people look down on people that smoke (as if they had no vices).

BamaBake, I'm not trying to be mean, but I'm allergic to smoke. So what is the answer for me if I'm seated too close to the smoking section? Should I not be allowed to go out to eat? It really hurts if you're allergic to smoke. It stops up my nose and irritates my eyes and throat.

Nan,

There have always been restraunts that banned smoking. I know what you mean, but why should your illness deny another man his pleasure in a public place? I have allergies and avoid the allergens. Seems the same should apply to smoking as long as it is legal.

BTW, I do not smoke and wish cigarettes were banned - just playing devil's advocate...

I'm not saying that smokers should be banned - only that when the waiter seats a non-smoker too close to the smoking section, what do you do? You can ask to be moved but what if there are no other seats?

Ah ha, but you said you wish that cigarettes were banned, but you asked me why should another person's pleasure be denied. I'm not even asking that their pleasure be denied - just wondering what the answer is...

I look down on smoking because it stinks and it kills ya. It ain't the worst vice to have, but it sure is an annoying one. At least when I drink, I don't go belching beer breath all over everyone around me.

I wish it were banned for my children's sake. I smoked when I was young and had a tough time kicking the habit after 8 years. I just wish that something so harmful could be pulled from the shelves...

I also used Ephedra before they found out about the risks - though I followed the recommended dosage. I was not the least offended when they took it off the market, though I gained about 20 pounds that it took almost a year to work off. For weight loss and maintenance, ephedra worked, and it was not habit forming. The only problem - it killed people...

Suuure you don't. The smell of alcohol is as easily detected. Look at any cop's dui arrest reports. They all read the same. And you don't think a cop would ever stretch the truth, do ya? :)

Hahahaha Newdow forgot that it's George W. Bush's 1st amendment guaranteeing the Freedom of Religion TO pray, I could throw in the speech part, but why muddy the waters...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! What an idiot...I hope they threw it out with prejudice.

Oh, and someone kick his a$$ please...no, not Dubya's, but Newdow's.... :p :)

Well Nan, I certainly understand you, I cant stand cig smoke myself. Cigars are even worse. I was being extreme to make a point however the scenario is applicable to what goes on in a PC world. If someone is smoking in a smoking section, and a non smoler sits in a seat close to the smoking section and complain, I think the non smoker should shut the heck up and move. To me it is arrogant and PC in the above scenario to expect the smoker to move.

You wait, one day people that dont eat food that is politically correct will be looked down on before long. Like I said the country is going to "you know where".

One day? One day? Isn't that happening already? I read recently that McDonald's is going to change their menu to accommodate the PC crowd. Surely they'll still have their "heart attack" food as well. Who doesn't want a big thick hamburger with all the trimmings sometimes? I DO!!!

As for the country it's already gone to hell in a hand basket!!!

Nan, sometimes I want a really good burger myself, loaded with cheddar and bacon, and sometimes with grilled onions as well. (Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger in Paradise sums it up quite well, actually).

But when I am in the mood for a really good burger, McDonald's is the LAST place I'd go. :)

I like McDonald's quarter pounder, and I have heard that they'll be changing their menu, but I was really just using some fast food restaurant for emphasis.

Jimmy Buffet's cheeseburger in Paradise? Where is that?

I also like Backyard burgers - ymmmmm

Have we gotten off the track here? From prayer at the inauguration to hamburgers!

I know that Nan; I'm just being difficult. :P

First there was the song, then there was the chain

They are good. Their onion rings are pretty good, too. Best onion rings I've ever had were in, of all places, Walla Walla, Washington. They grow an onion up there that is every bit the equal of a Vidalia, and there was one hole in the wall that made some abolutely magnificent onion rings.

Smoking is a filthy, disgusting habit.

If a smoker insists upon ruining my dining experience, I should be able to return the favor:

Light up a big stogie and blow it in his/her face.

In lieu of the cigar, maybe I should conjure up a good burning methane blast from yesterday's chili dogs, and deposit the aroma in the smoker's presence. Maybe then, he'd have to go home and take a bath and air out his clothes like I do every time I'm in a smoke-filled establishment.
