I don't think AU is a big step up at all. The internal disfunction compensates for the historical on field success. Kiffin is poised to win 10 games in back to back years. AU has done that one time in their entire history as a football program.
Lane has publicly complained about both the lack of fan and financial support at Ole Miss this year. Fan support is one thing, but the digs about getting out-bid for coaches and players is another. He may make it sound like a joke, but it has to be frustrating to him. He won’t have that issue at Auburn. He may have hit the ceiling at Ole Miss. The ceiling a the barn is much higher. My thinking on Freeze is that they seem to care more about having someone who can beat Bama, and Lane hasn’t. But if they offer Lane a big contract, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he jumps at it. Alabama is far from a sure thing and he could win championships there. Probably not at Ole Miss.

I am changing my vote for Freeze to Kiffin, although I think it will be a bad decision in the long run. Kiffin is about being relevant and in the headlines, and rebuilding AU would give him that platform.

If he’s competent (about which I have no clue), he’d have assessed AU culture before his interview process began, and would have illustrated his recruitment philosophy and plan to the AU PTB before they hired him. In other words, he’s been on the job a couple of weeks, but he’s not starting from scratch (unless he’s not competent; in which case, yea!)…
The incoming AD may of been up front, but no way Auburn was. Tooo many skeletons in the closet. They bring someone in , indoctrinate them in their culture, then show their cards. He will have his Terry Bowden moment after a year or two.

Just what has Kiffin done to deserve a $100 million deal?? He has beaten nobody worth a darn this year. He only beat 3-7 Tulsa by 8, at home. I will not be surprised if he loses to Arkansas and State; to close the season.
Could be the next Jimbo deal; if Auburn does it.
Jimmy Sexton playing his games again.
People talked about how long Saban would stay at Bama; when he was hired due to his moves. Look at Kiffin's record of tenure. He will dump Auburn as soon as an NFL job in a locale he likes comes available. NFL lifestyle is a better fit for him; no recruiting. More time to play bachelor.

I may be wrong, but I don't think Kiffin would be in line to succeed Saban in the near term. I think his departure from Tuscaloosa is still fresh in many minds there. Aaron Suttles made similar comments last week on The Next Round - he did not think LK would be welcomed back. I think Lane has grown and matured but elephants can have long memories.
I agree, as long as Greg Byrne is ad Lane will not be coaching at Bama

A number of posters with inside knowledge have said similar things recently but, others still want Kiffin to succeed Saban. I'll trust the insiders until they are proven wrong. Seems like Kiffin burnt too many bridges on the way out of Tuscaloosa.

If Kiffin believes Jimmy Rane, Bobby Lowder and the gang when they say, “Sure, coach….you have 1,000% control over the program. You won’t hear anything from us other than the scratching of pens on paper making out checks,” he believes OJ really didn’t do it.

Regardless of what assurances they may give, they are still what they are, and will change only when they are in the dirt.

Lane makes over 7 mil a year now, right?

The "rumor" is Auburn will double it per year???

CNS currently makes 11.7 mil a year.

So the Barn will pay more for Lane than Bama does for CNS???

Coaches I think Auburn actually might have a shot with

1) Cadillac
2) Jamey Chadwell
3) Kevin Steele
4) Will Friend
5) Bill Clark
6) Hugh Freeze
7) Jeff Grimes

Coaches who will not go: Lane Kiffin, Matt Rhule and Deion Sanders

someone that could be on the fence: Dan Lanning

Someone help me understand how Auburn is a better job than Ole Miss.
better facilities and more money. However, the boosters just proved they could act like middle school girls from the movie mean girls. They proved they will with-hold money, play dirty and launch investigations to try to ruin someones career.

now pair that with the fact that you play georgia and alabama every year, recruit against those schools and the program considers a 9 win season a failure where ole miss does not.

Yes you said it.

So AU has:

More money (not sure though... all the coach buy outs and Ole Miss surely has some deep pockets)
Bigger stadium
Better facilities, maybe
Closer access to elite, Atlanta area recruiting as well as Florida recruits

Ole Miss:

Still plenty of money if not what AU has
Nice enough stadium
Facilities?
State of Mississippi turns out some talent, Texas is nearby but recruiting must be more difficult than would be at AU

But the negatives... Auburn has a ton. There are, excuse me for this, "energy vampires" to dodge everywhere in that program. The boosters make all other boosters, including Texas, look tame by comparison. What they did to Harsin is heinous and I don't care how big of an a-hole Harsin was. They smeared that man like a dirty politician would. No... the worst of our politicians blushed when they saw what AU did to him.

These are the same rumors as last time with giant salaries and secret home run hires. Let’s be real they’ll be lucky to get an up and coming coordinator. Jamie chadwell is a great name if they’re smart. With his offense you don’t have to get the best recruits. Get him and spend 2.5 on a legit d coordinator and they’d be doing alright

I kinda of hoping we look at Coastal Carolina’s OC Willy Korn when we show BOB the door.
