I've seen where several people on different boards have mentioned a Christmas week surprise in recruiting for Bama. I've been trying to figure out who might make a move, but I really don't have a clue. Any takers on a prediction?

Mikell Simpson
Mike Davis
Roy Upchurch>>>>>Maybe Upchurch?

Trott
Peek

Moore
Greenwood
Coleman
Deaderick
Wesley
Forbes

Pegues
Rogers
Keys

Rouse
Kyles>>>>>Maybe Kyles?

Who else?

Chris Rogers' teammate Chris Clinton at Evangel Christian has committed to Maryland, the school which Chris Rogers has given a "soft" verbal.

I think "surprises" would be limited to M. Davis, J. Davis, Pegues or Rouse. drjamesm is right, if Saban leaves, Keys is likely to come to Bama. That would be a very, very good thing along with any other commitments from Upchurch, Simpson, etc.

I don't think Mike Davis will go to Clemson if James Davis does, but JD doesn't go to Clemson until Jan. 14th (same date as Mike Davis going to Clemson). Seems that these blue chip athletes feel that they are special enough that they can wait till the very end and still have their pick. JD is high on Clemson. MD will be at Bama on Jan. 7th., JD will be here Jan. 28th. but I don't expect him to come if we have Mikell Simpson or Upchurch by then.

Well the exact # of scholarship players to join the team in the fall will be 25. I would guess we'll sign between 28-30. I don't think there will be more than 1 or 2 academic casualties, but you never know. In a perfect scenario there will probably be 2 or 3 gray shirts.

So, we've got between 5 and 7 spots left.

This comes from all the stuff I've read from the administrators of the various BAMA web sites.

Odds are it's Keys and/or Nick Kyles. Odds favor Rogers switching on his visit which is not until January 7th. I've also heard a small rumbling regarding Wes Brown but my guess is that it could just as easily come in a month as within the next few days.

Just for fun, if I was a handicapper, I'd put the odds of a Bama committment (by signing day) something like this:

Kyles 75%
Rogers 55% (likely to pull trigger on visit)
Keys 55% (going up the longer Saban considers Miami)
Brown 51% (seems more comfortable at UA, but is a life long Vol fan--we've seen how much being a lifelong fan means to guys like Caddilac ;-) )

Thanks for the info, RTRcam.....
One more thing I forgot, the Bryant Scholarship is an option as well.

Jake Wingo got the Bryant Scholarship this past year, and it is likely one will be given out this year. Children of players under Coach Bryant are eligible for this scholarship, though they can not see action for 2 years or their scholly will count against the initial 25.

My take on that

I'm guessing that Alabama will sign about 28-29 players with taking into consideration maybe 2 guys that won't make it academically, at least one will be a Bryant scholarship recipient (OL Scott Deaton comes to mind) and maybe 2-3 will greyshirt.

I just don't see any players committing over the holidays. Remember, this is a "dead time" in recruiting. Coaches can either have very little or ZERO contact with recruits. As such, I just don't see any recruits feeling any kind of pressure to commit during the dead time.

I still say that 1/7/05 is a CRITICAL recruiting weekend, maybe one of the biggest in the history of the school. There are a number of really big time recruits that will be visiting that weekend and it's critical that the Tide get some commits from at least a few of them in order to finish the recruiting season strong.
