Confirmation hearings on today for Hegseth. Lot of it is the usual dog and pony show.

Will he get the job?
Republicans dont have the balls to stand up to trump so yes, he'll be approved along strict party lines. :(
His only qualification is that trump saw him on Fox sitting on a sofa on Saturdays and is a trump sycophant.
What happens when he cheats on his 3rd wife, which he will, and the Chinese blackmale him.
What happens when trump directs him to do something, like trump tiied previously, that is clearely illegal/unconstitutional.

If you want to contend that Mayor Pete was as blatantly unqualified as DeVos, that's your problem, not mine.
Problem? I don't have a problem with saying that Pete Buttigieg was completely unqualified for Secretary of Transportation. He's accomplished nothing in his four years. Oh wait, I'm wrong, he did successfully force the entire federal interstate system to attend diversity training for all those racist underpasses and interchanges. At least he's got that to put on his resume.

He's accomplished nothing that you approve of, you mean. He oversaw the disbursement of funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Granted, a lot of that money went to fund projects in poorer neighborhoods, so it may not have impacted you directly.

What are the requirements to be SoD? Which of these does Hegseth not meet?
Ah, so you'd be fine with Trump appointing random people off the street for cabinet positions?

No, there are no legal requirements, but cabinet appointments are subject to senate approval, which means that some kind of evaluation is to occur. And in the absence of specific job requirements, it is incumbent on the administration to make the case that the appointee is suitable for the position.

Setting the numerous allegations concerning sexual assault and alcohol abuse aside, what in Hegseth's resume suggests that he's capable of leading the Department of Defense? That he's capable of overseeing an ~$825 billion dollar budget?

I'm not suggesting these things are okay (if they happened), but if we use them as determining factors most of congress would be out tomorrow.

We both know the SoD doesn't have to dot i's and cross t's wrt overseeing budgetary expenditures - the position makes macro decisions. Also, I'm okay with someone that over 120 retired Generals and Admirals support:

Chris Wright, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for energy secretary, told senators during his confirmation hearing Wednesday that he would promote all sources of American energy, while also acknowledging the burning of fossil fuels causes climate change.

CEO of Denver-based Liberty Energy, Wright promised to help Trump “unleash energy security and prosperity.”

The centerpiece of Trump’s energy policy is “drill, baby, drill,” and he has pledged to dismantle what he calls Democrats’ “green new scam” in favor of boosting production of fossil fuels such as oil, natural gas and coal, which cause climate change — when they burn, greenhouse gases are released.

“President Trump shares my passion for energy,” Wright said. “And if confirmed, I will work tirelessly to implement his bold agenda as an unabashed steward for all sources of affordable, reliable and secure American energy.”

He said that includes oil and natural gas, which underpin the nation’s economy; coal, nuclear power and hydropower as major sources of energy; rapidly-growing wind and solar power; and geothermal energy, which could become a meaningful source of energy.

She didn't answer a single question
Chris Cuomo noted last night that these confirmations are going to be shoe-ins. Not because of the nominees' answers, but because of the stupid questions being asked to them. (He's not wrong, either.) Not content to point out the stupidity of the Dems' questions, he also criticized Republicans who used this as an opportunity to grandstand. (He's right about that, too.)

Other than a whole lot of political theater.......things seem to be going well for the nominees so far. They've all come across as very poised, informed, and prepared.

Talk is cheap for sure but considering the accomplishments these folks have on their resume.....I'm feeling good about what we'll see over the next 4 years. Maybe beyond....

Yeah, prepared to not answer the questions asked.
The democrats should be spending their time with legitimate policy questions instead of all these "trick" questions that are only designed to try and catch the nominee in a lie or half truth.

Two points--

1. Few individual members of congress have the authority of SecDef.
2. They are also elected, where the voters can decide. Here, the Senate has to make that determination.
