Prothro's Health

All I've got to say....

Best Wishes, Tyrone! WE miss you, WE need you, but your health and happiness is more important to us. Whatever comes of this, you will always be highly regarded by us Bama fans!

Oh, and get yourself that quality education from the University.

When the subject of Pro came up, I asked a member of the coaching staff this week after the CB how Pro was doing, he said, his attitude is great, he is doing everything he can in rehab and that he would be having more surgery soon to do something with the rods. He said it will be a time thing but that all that could be done was being done.

I liked davefrat's source description better.

Thanks Bama in VA, Capstone 46 & Tide-HSV. I appreciate the info very much.

Personally, I would probably feel better about his situation if he takes things slow as far a comeback. His overall health is the most important thing. I do hope he takes a red-shirt next year to give himself a little more time to heal, but I know he will have good people to advise him on what he should do.

Thanks again!!!

Just want to thank all of you who just had to be facetious about my comment. I was just telling you what my husband's cousin heard directly from Tyrone. My husband is very close to his cousin, not some info passed down through seven people. Some of you people are down right mean on here and love to attack someone the first moment you can. As you can see, I don't post very often, but I read and follow the board everyday. I was NOT posting rumors. Thanks for the spit in the face and the knowledge to know that not every Bama fan's info or thoughts are not wanted here on this board. What I said was legit. The source it came from is NOT a liar. You can believe me or not, that is your choice. It matters not to me. I just passed on what was said. But I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that chances are slim he will be back, and that is precisely what the doctor's told him. I know Tyrone will give it all he's got to get back, and my best wishes and prayers are with him.

Easy Deb,

We appreciate you sharing the info you have. It just so happens we are getting about the same...as in "his playing time again isnt' a given." Word we are getting is it is better than 50/50...

Only thing we can do is wait and see.

Thanks for your participation.

One more thing Deb,

This is one of the better run forums you can find anywhere on Tide football, I have been to a few where not even my thick skin was thick enough. I don't post on here alot either, but I do enjoy reading/lurking on TideFans on a daily basis. You will find some people in every group who are in your words "mean", but I don't think any harm was meant, just some good natured ribbing.

Bama fans "Mean"??? NEVER!!!! ;) "Love to attack someone"!!!! NEVER!!!! ;)

It must be you with the problem!!!! ;) ;)

In all seriousness BD, don't let it bother you. I think the reason behind the "mean posts" and the "attacking attitudes" is because, it is a way for people to say what they really think and how they really want to express it, knowing that they don't have to say it to someone's face and possibly suffer the consequences. The vast majority of posters on this board (including myself) wouldn't dare say to someone's face what we say and the tone we use to say it as we do on this board.

I've actually witnessed a very disturbing instance where two people sparring on a message board accidentally met (without planning to) and one got seriously hurt. You never know who is on the other side of that post and when you might run into them. Some folks take this stuff (literally) "dead serious".

But please keep posting just keep in mind that we're all nuts. :biggrin2:

Consider this: TP back to 100% of his old self is consensus 1st team All-American stuff. Returning punts, kick-offs, tailback, quarterback, reverses, slot receiver, and a lot of skinny posts.

I'll consider him back if he's playing on critical third downs as a clutch possession receiver, and just helping us win. He'll be back.

Right now, he's still going through the trials and tribulations of surgeries, recuperations, and recoveries. You people haven't taken him out of your prayers, have you? Better yet, send him a card and tell him what a great athlete you think he is, and TELL him he's in your prayers.

God bless Tyrone Prothro.

The problem Prothro has is they allowed Les Fowler to do the surgery. Has an Alabama player every really recovered from a Fowler surgery?

Ding! Ding! Ding! Looks like we have a winner! When I saw Fowler leaving the field with Pro, I was horrified! When I heard that he was doing the surgery, again, I was horrified!

I'm going to go out on a limb...

and say that, if he's able to return, a big question mark, he may return to something like his old form. Why do I say that? AC's problem, stress fracture, is basically a bone deterioration from the bone structure not being able to stand up to a repeated action (lay terms). Placing a rod, as in AC's case hopes to stabilize the bone long enough for it to heal itself with the repeated stress taken off it. Frequently, this tactic doesn't work. In Pro's case, the comminuted nature of the fracture means a twisted mess was made of the bone. It will be hard, obviously, for the bone to re-assemble itself and approach it's former strength. However, the ligaments and tendons of the ankle - usually the problem in low leg fractures - were not involved. So, I think it all revolves around how the bone itself can fend off the trauma and heal. I won't express an opinion on how early care may have impacted his chances, pro or con (pardon the pun)...

You said it not me. I couldn't agree with you more. My understanding is Alabama uses Healthsouth and if I were in Tyrone's shoes, I would have wanted one of these doctors to perform my surgery.

I realize he had a very nasty injury. This is all the reason more to have an outstanding doctor perform the surgery.

It was a complicated situation...

It wasn't a closed injury, like a rotator cuff, for example, where there's the luxury of waiting until the next day and having different docs study the films. This was a nasty, dirty, open, compound fracture, the type of which is normally treated as soon as possible. If they had driven past DCH (if the necessary permissions could be had to do so) and on to B'ham and infection had set in and gotten worse, they would be criticized now for not taking advantage of the nearest trauma center. Hindsight is 20-20...

funny you should mention that. i've always thought that would make a good story line for a "law and order" episode.

and BD, don't take it personally, what is said here is often akin to the half-truths and blowhard nonsense you get at your local watering hole.

Thanks for the good info...man, I hope he makes it back to form.

My post was NOT directed at you Bama-Deb, it was meant for your detractors. Every time someone comes to this board with 2'nd or 3'rd hand info, someone else thinks it's just the heigth of wit to post some idiotic diatribe about "My brother knows this guy that talked to the ganitor who has a cousin ....blah, blah blah". It's idiotic.

However, :p , you do need to keep in mind that the more people info passes through, the more it get's morphed. It's possible that TP told your Husban's cousin that it will be tough for him to come back, and it got morphed into TP doesn't think he will be back. Anyway, most reasonable posters take these types of reports with a grain of salt, but appreciate the information. Other's don't believe anything unless it came directly out of Shula's mouth, and even then they had to have been standing next to him. Keep posting, and grow some thicker skin.
