QB Connor Mitch Commits to South Carolina

With the Phillip Sims departure, is this young man now at the top of our board at the qb position for this class? Based on a subscription -only site, he and Saban talked as recently as friday and he seems excited about coming down again and seems to sense a great opportunity. I like his size--(6'3"), 210 lbs.

With Phillip Sims deciding to take his talents to Charlottesville, I think it is likely that Alabama signs two QBs in the 2013 class. I'm not sure what the pecking order would be, but I think Cooper Bateman would be near the top, along with Riley Ferguson. Once some of these guys have a throwing session with Coach Saban and Coach Nussmeier, things will start to shake out.

We could also see a JuCo possibly being added in this class; however, I don't know of any candidates right now. My suspicion of this lies with the fact that we'll be very young behind A.J. McCarron. It is also possible that McCarron could enter the 2013 NFL draft, with the way QBs are viewed right now. In this scenario, that would leave a still developing sophomore in Phillp Ely, along with redshirt freshman Alec Morris, competing against the 2013 QB signee for the starting job in '13.

Definitely like Bateman more than Mitch. That's nothing against Mitch because he is a very good QB in his own right. I just like Bateman a little more. Mitch is probably heading to USCe.

This is why I believe Connor will not end up here. From what I have read he wants to be the only QB in the class.

The pecking order is really hard to figure out right now, and frankly I don't think it's set in stone yet. It'll probably be mid-to-late summer before the staff really solidifies things further. We're going to want to see these kids in-person in camp.

Either way, we need two quarterbacks in this class, and I think we'll do that.

I agree but if not Ferguson maybe the Staver kid from TN. Stock will rise after the camp circuit and he seems very interested in UA.

Yes, it came down to USC and UF.

It may have "came down" to South Carolina and Florida, but Urban never gave him a firm offer. They picked up Cam Newton and a legacy (Brantley) and that was it.

Garcia was a highly-touted kid, to be sure, but at the end of the day the national powers of the day weren't in the hunt.
