Im not an OU fan and have only seen the occasional big game on ESPN or ABC but from Stoops' time there post Mike Leach anyway, OU has done, on offense, what works. They run when it works to run and pass when that works. Which is exactly what our Offense does, or tries to do. I wasnt trying to say that OU doesnt throw the ball alot but throwing the ball a lot, if it works, is logical, at UA the past 2 years running has been our forte, we've had a heismann winner at RB, but we have passed much more than people seem to remember and at times last year the passing game was the only part of our O that could move the ball when our Oline put on dresses for about 4 or 5 weeks, but again we didnt have Landry Jones at QB or big 12 defenses to throw against.Alright guys, I'm hearing a lot of contradicting things. OU Rivals is saying that they feel as if it's down to OU and Missouri, but other people who are reliable are saying that he is supposed to be visiting Bama again. I'm really not sure what to make of this anymore. One poster is supposedly best friends with a member of the coaching staff at OU and he was the one who was the first one to say that Gunner would be visiting OU and he also told us about the Durron Neal and Gunner Kiel whole wink thing before OU Rivals did and now he is telling us that Gunner is OU's to lose. I guess time will tell, I really have no idea anymore and I don't think anyone does.
As far as OU's offense vs. Alabama's, we do throw the ball a lot more but last year's offense isn't what this year's offense is going to look like. We chucked the ball around a lot more this year than we did in 08 (it was almost exactly 50/50 run pass in 08) but it was because our offensive line couldn't consistently open holes for our tail backs. Our blocking scheme has been simplified this year and we have a new coach that is the tackle and tight end coach while before we had one guy coaching the whole line and Kevin Wilson coaching the tight ends. Look for us to throw the ball a lot less this year than we did last year, but we will still be throwing a lot because we run so many plays.
If you guys got a QB the caliber of Gunner, I think you guys would throw the ball a lot more than you have been. Stoops runs his offense to fit the personnel so if we are going to be more successful running the ball we are going to see more doses of the run game and vice versa. In 08 we had the perfect combination of run and pass which led to the most successful offense in college football history. Last year, we didn't have much success running the ball so we threw the ball 40 times a game. You could say the same thing about Saban, when you have two studs in the backfield with Ingram and Richardson and a game manager at QB you are naturally going to be a run heavy offense so if you guys get Kiel I think it is safe to say that you will be throwing the ball a lot more.Im not an OU fan and have only seen the occasional big game on ESPN or ABC but from Stoops' time there post Mike Leach anyway, OU has done, on offense, what works. In short,, I just don't see huge differences, at the ideological level anyway, in the teams offenses or in tradition and the coaching staffs are basically the same in reputation and quality, and the same could be said for facilities, competition level, and ability to get to the NFL. Its going to be very subtle differences that help him make this decision and distance to home being a big leg up for OU I'd have to give them the lead, but if anyone can pull it out its Saban, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Yeah I remember the year before last reading how they got together. Apparantly it worked because that next fall we took it to UF. So thank you OU and Stoops for that.8)If you guys got a QB the caliber of Gunner, I think you guys would throw the ball a lot more than you have been. By the way, Stoops and Saban are apparently friends and both have been meeting with each other the last few off seasons. OU is going to be lining up a lot in Saban's 50 defense and I've heard you guys are looking to change your offense similar to the one we run.
I really have no idea what the kid is going to do, but no matter where he goes he is going to play in the NFL. A lot of success our QB's have is due to Josh Heupel. I don't think there is a better QB coach in the country to be completely honest. Without Heupel, Sam Bradford would still be a good player, but he would not be nearly as successful as early as he was. Same with Landry, you probably didn't see much at all of him his freshman season but he made enormous leaps and bounds in his mechanics and in reading defenses from his freshman to sophomore year and I expect him to make similar progress this year.
Maybe Stoops has told CNS a thing or two about offensive playcalling with a big lead...Yeah I remember the year before last reading how they got together. Apparantly it worked because that next fall we took it to UF. So thank you OU and Stoops for that.8)
That's one thing I do like about Stoops. He's pretty ruthless until the end!! CNS seems to be much more "compassionate" when he's laid the smacketh down on a team...Maybe Stoops has told CNS a thing or two about offensive playcalling with a big lead...

Agreed. Good to see you OU guys on here.As is usually the case when OU and UA fans take over, this has turned into an excellent and informative thread. Thanks to all for the contributions.
FYI... Bama is much closer to home for Gunner than OU is...Not sure where he ends up, but I always thought it would be hard to pull him south. The real question is was he really going to commit this Sunday as his coach thought. If so was it going to hapen before he went back to OU, or did OU convince him to come in one last time and now that he did he now needs more time because OU gave him more to think about so he his delaying his decision. Which might bode well for us.
Now if he is visiting again with both parents I do like our chances especially if we are the last visit before he decides. The other good thing I think with Gunner is when he commits I doubt he waivers from it. But this is starting to remind me of M Brown last year. I know Brown was from Texas and maybe that helped Texas out, but OU can offer everything we can and is closer to home. In the end I think it just comes down to the staff he likes the best along with his parents. Again either team will be lucky with this one.
BTW I do not think Gunner's decision will have any effect on DGB. It just happens they both are high on the same schools.

"QB Gunner Kiel not deciding on Sunday tells me he was planning on committing to Alabama then a trip to Norman made him rethink some things."
