Why do both AU and UGA use a version of the Battle Hymn of the Republic? There are two issues with that. First, didn't Sherman march thru or very near Athens? Second, why would the two oldest rivals in the South play the same song? Weird on both counts, IMO.

Your right, there is only one note difference between the two schools songs. It is because neither could find a single person on their campus that could write a decent fight song so they resorted to using a generic fight song.

Add to the fact that Auburn plays Clemson's fight song (very closely)....umm, yeah. Auburn obviously likes to play other teams' fight songs.

LSU, Auburn, and Clemson all play a song called Tiger Rag, although I think LSU's version is the best.

I have also wondered about Auburn and Geprgia playing the same song. Does anyone know when this started?

As far as the Battle Hymn of the Republic goes. Auburn's version is as follows:

"Glory Glory to Auburn, Glory glory to Auburn, Glory Glory to Auburn, A-U-B-U-R-N"

Georgias Fight Song is "Glory, Glory to Georgia." The lyrics vary only where appropriate.

As far as the other fight songs go, Auburn, LSU, Miss St. Kentucky, Florida and a couple other SEC schools use the same structure with varying note patterns. You can pretty much play them all at the same time and they will sync up.

See: College Fight Songs

So much for creativity.

I was told Auburn stole UGA's as a way to throw it back at them. Like some tried to throw Rammer Jammer back at us. Not sure if its true.

When we hear Auburn play it we sing:
They are singing Georgia's fight song
They are singing Georgia's fight song
They are singing Georgia's fight song
It was Georgia's fight song first
