More bleachers

to forget about the awnings and try to put the red seats in the stadium. It looks half-#%@ with the west side in red seats and the east sides in bleachers. ..
There's not enough people standing up as it is. Replace the west side red seats with bleachers. ;)

Can't have my seat taken away. The reason I moved is for the past 3 years my "bleacher" seat was half occupied by the 400lb gorilla of a woman who sat beside me and profusely sweat like she was in a sauna. Especially, if the sun was out, no shade for the east end till later in the afternoon. Oh, that woman, she gives me nightmares to this very day.
Now my chair seat is occupied by me,myself, and I.
I didn't know that adding seats to fill the stadium would decrease the capacity. Thanks for the info.

Great Job

You couldn't have done any better in photoshop with those overhang pictures, that stresses the point I have been trying to get across...

Everyone already knows that our Athletics Department is copying the design plans from Texas A&M

As you can see in the almost perfect pictures of what it will/will not look like, the overhang adds an "Alabama Touch" and it doesn't look like EVERY OTHER STADIUM ENDZONE in the country...

also, if you will notice the height in the photoshopped pictures, the upperdeck is actually taller than the other two decks by a little bit...

If you don't want to believe that an overhang would make BDS unique, just look at the pictures....

we have the opportunity to remain unique, as Alabama has always been, or we can save money and end up being a second rate end-zone copy, of Texas A&M

we decide......

Two quick notes...

With addition of the two new jumbotrons along with the other eminities inside the new construction BDS will be one of the most fan-interactive stadiums in the NC2A. In a word, unique.

While it is true the first pictures/drawings of the stadiums exterior were original composites taken from the firm that worked with aTm, there have been a lot of changes since that time, and those changes didn't come from aTm.

I didn't know that

I didn't know that, thannx for the info.....

I thought it was going to be a replica of aTm's endzone structure....

regardless, it will be my favorite place to go on saturday's

overhang, or no overhang...

and it isn't as if this thing cannot be added down the road, if needed

it's not part of the superstructure :)

as long as they build a matching deck on the other side, it will look great.

If they leave the overhang off of the new addition it will look very ackward in the new aerial photos

However, from what I've heard, the Athletic's Department plans to bowl in the other endzone in about four or five years, around 2010 is what I have heard.

If they leave the overhang off, the new addition, in my opinion, will look like crap until they construct the matching south addition, then it will look great

I like things to be symmetric, maybe it's just me

Hey guys...i just want to add something about the height issue. I'm not sure why they rereleased the info about the added skyboxes. That was desided before they laid the foundatoin for the addition.

An upper deck similar to the two on the sides will sit atop two levels of skyboxes, a club level and an administration level.

About 600 of the new seats will come from 38 skyboxes. That means more football tickets sold, which is the main moneymaker for intercollegiate athletics.
Tide Sports Write Up from January 5, 2005

Note: This page takes forever to load...it will finally load though.

Also Thad Turnipseed (The director of capital improvements at UA) talked about this in a crimson tradition video from 12/20/2004.

So the height of the Upper deck hasn't changed. The information just got out re-released for some reason.

Honestly, if you look at pictures taken thus far from the inside, the club/skybox level of the addition is the same height as the east/west sides. The height difference seems to come from the deck alone. I think it just has more rows than the other two decks in order get to get more seats in this addition.

Speaking of the older decks, I've always thought they should have built those with 10-15 more rows. They have just always seemed kind of short.

Any overhang/awning in the endzone would have to look different from the photoshop picture. The lighting would cause a problem, there is a reason football fields run north-south. Just a thought.

There are actually some that run east...

To west. Georgia's is the first that comes to mind. An old roommate of mind was an OU grad and he said that OK State ran east to west.

As far as the overhang goes, I think I like it better without the overhang. You're also right in that there wouldn't be any light on it.
