OK Guys,
Let me start with I know that college coaching staffs have forgotten more about football than I will ever know. I just want to ask if something from Alabama's past would work to defend the "HUNH".
Here is my rudimentary description (aka. assumption) of the "HUNH". The "HUNH" is predicated on the offense lining up quickly without changing out any players, basically handicapping the defense from changing out players and creating mismatches that benefit the offense. The offense read the defensive formation at the line and select a play that would best work against that defensive formation, right?
If I am right with my assumption of the "HUNH" here is my question. In 1992, Alabama brought an incredible defensive package to the National Championship game to confuse and disrupt the offense of Miami. Alabama put 11 defenders on the line of scrimmage to confuse and disrupt the offensive play calling. I understand that in 1992 Alabama had probably 11 of the best defensive players in college football, but why would the concept not work? The offense would not have there key reads on the defense, because we are not showing anything. The defense could Blitz, or do anything from that set. Would this not level the playing field somewhat and cause the offense to slow down in the play calling. I know that the defense could not run this type style all game, but it could be run for key times in games.
Why would this not work? What do you think?
RTR!
