I know this is way out of left field, but is it just me or were the flyovers this year really late? The Penn State flyover was over a minute after the national anthem ended.

Is this a gameday ops issue? The jets are in a holding pattern south of the stadium, aren't they? Can't we radio ahead with a heads-up to be there in 1 minute or something? It just seemed rather unscripted this year.

The calm before the Signing Day storm. :)

And here I was thinking that the same two jets did all three flyovers in a matter of minutes at the Outback, Cap One, and Gator Bowls this year. The two that flew over the Cap One in Orlando could have easily been in Tampa a minute earlier and in Jacksonville a minute later.

The locals get kinda silly about breaking that sound barrier thingy. Something about shattered windows. Tampa - Orlando is doable. Up here to Jax??? Not quite so much given the time span of the kick offs

I'm not a military pilot but I worked on their landing systems for 20 years. What the article doesn't mention or I didn't see is they also have to abide by the civilian airspace which is a little more "cluttered" than the military airspace (designated altitudes). This would take precious time if they were on a really tight schedule unless they could reach the military airspace (which they can very quickly) but the coordination of it all would also affect their ability to reach the destinations on time. Maybe one of the retired military pilots could chime in. Definately the off season.

I think they should do the flyovers with a B-52! I hear them all the time....and they sound way cooler than a Jet...except for maybe the F-22! A B-52 is huge...and incredibly loud! Be way more exciting then some little lawn dart F-16! No offense to any fighter pilots....cause my commander is a F-16 guy and he even calls them lawn darts!

I liked the flyover prior to the Tennessee game in 05, that was neat. Nothing against the jets, but they go too fast and high.

I'm on my phone so I'm unable to, but someone needs to post the obligatory photo of the extremely low flyover at BDS from a few years ago.

I'm not sure where the jets were based out of, but at the Capital One bowl they introduced them during the game and the pilots waved to the crown. I can't remember exactly when it occurred during the game.

It was during the 3rd quarter when the pilots walked out onto the field. That was a great moment.

Check out this low flyover from a TCU vs Navy game: YouTube - TCU at NAVY FLY BY!

I was under the impression that a lot of the flyovers we get are actually done the other way around... that is the pilots ask the University if they can flyover and then get permission to do the flight as a part of their training... that's why we end up with a lot of Alabama alumni doing flyovers. It also explains why we get them for some games and not for others.

I do agree with the earlier poster about a B-52... would be an AMAZING thing to see given the size of the damn things... had one fly over me on approach as I drove through Shreveport one time and it was amazing.

Ooooohhh....that LSU flyover in 2005 was amazing!!! I was in the east uppers and I about tinkled in my pants because they seemed so LOW. In that instant, I was convinced they were about to hit one of those cranes!

I was @ a game @ a non-SEC school, and so help me, the flyover missed! Their axis was a couple hundred yards off; thus, fans on one side of the stadium saw them, whereas those where we were sitting didn't. We heard a roar of sorts, but that's it. It was right funny, I must say...

p.s. - Is it college football season yet? I am READY!
