Just watched the replay again. On the play the UF player was injured by Menzie. Mandell was hit rolling around on the ground trying to win an Oscar. There was a stoppage and the training staff for both teams came out. The UF player left the field and Mandell lined back up to punt. Muschamp was running around screaming like crazy at the refs holding up 1 finger. I'm pretty sure he was yelling Mandell had to come out for one play. I thought that if the trainers came out that was the rule too. Or am I getting NFL and college rules confused.

I believe the trainers came out initially for the Gator......and stayed out longer too.

Plus there may have been a timeout.

OR they just screwed it up.

Both teams had trainers on the field. BTW this crew was pretty bad. Don't even get me started on the whole fumble play where the random official that wasn't even around the play blew it dead.

This is the same crew which was suspended a couple of years ago for incompetence...

I didn't even think about that last night. The rules do say that, in the event of an injury timeout, the playmer must remain out of the game for at least one down. I guess that's another "Oops!" for this crew.

Was it Menzie or Milliner who forgot to check whether the punt returner had the ball yet before running into him at full speed? That was one of the few instances, even with the roughing the kicker call, that I was not upset that we were penalized. We have some players that can inflict serious punishment, we just need to make sure it's legal or opposing coaches are going to start working the refs. A few more sacks might help too.

Hope I'm not being too picky here :)

That was a strange play. I can't figure out what happened or why Menzie hit the Florida punt returner. Did he stumble into him or intentionally block him? I would love to hear an explanation from Menzie as to what he was thinking.

Also, I believe Muschamp was right to complain. As I understand it, when a player gets hurt and the trainers attend to him on the field, he has to go out for one play, even if one team calls a timeout.

The reason Menzie hit him is because he was running full speed and the receiver didn't signal for a fair catch until a split second before Menzie hit him. He barely raised his hand over his head, it was bang-bang. Still, they made the right call by throwing the flag, but Mandell should have sat out the next play.

Still not supposed to touch the receiver until the ball touches him. Menzie was just wrong on this one. He probably got caught up in the moment and forgot that he wasn't on defense.

I think his timing was just a fraction off. I think he intended to arrive just after the ball. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that he closed his eyes... :D

If the injury timeout was initially called for the FL return man then Mandel didn't have to sit out. The return man did.
Maybe that is what happened. He got up and took about 3 steps or so before he fell down and started doing his FIFA soccer injury impression. LOL

I don't know if the return man signaled or not but Mendie interfered with the catch. Mandel does not kick far but his kicks are very coverable

i agree that menzie interfered with the catch, i indicated earlier the refs made the right call. i was simply explaining why he ran into the guy. he didn't have any time to slow down after he signaled for the fair catch, but it was a penalty nonetheless

It would have been a penalty even without the fair catch call. He needed to do a better job of knowing where the ball was (and perhaps looking up).

Somehow we seem to always draw 'The Apple Dumpling Crew'...
Poor officiating happens more often in SEC games than the average.
(Especially with that crew)
The bad crew cost us at least 6 pts. last night.
