Quick Post-Shreveport Notes from the Road

I really hope the University is never in the position to accept another invitation from the Independence Bowl, I hope they can do better from now on. But, if it should happen, I think the administration should decline it. Mal Moore should register a complaint now and let them know that UA will never be interested in coming back Shreveport because of the rudeness of the LSU folks that showed up.
I know the behavior was mixed, most behaved themselves others did not. But showing up to our bowl game in full game day colors was classless act. Sadly its what I've come to expect from a lot of our SEC fans. What happened to the good old days when Auburn was the only classless fan base?

I sat in the South Endzone, saw more than one LSU fan carried away in cuffs

and one of the left with a black eye to boot :biggrin:


there were a lot of hagglers, but they were kept quite with "Saban's Recruits" chant, lol

I actually heard more Bama fans being jerks to LSU folks than the other way around. People yelling after the game "LS WHO." "What do you think now, LSU fans?" Stuff like that. It was pretty uncalled for, especially considering they did beat us and are now playing in the championship game, while we are 7-6 with a slim Indy Bowl victory. Sometimes, it is better to just keep your mouth shut.

I live in "Sleezeport" and do not have the issues with LSU fans some of you have. Most that I deal with daily are good folks who support their team, could care less about Saban, will give a little good-natured razzing when needed and take it when given. I imagine Baton Rouge LSU fans are different, but I don't mind the ones here, and have only met one who really rubbed me wrong.

Here are my notes from the game:

1) The turnout on the Colorado side was downright shameful
2) Neither band is very good. I think the MDB leaves a lot to be desired on the field. In the stands, both bands could learn to quit stepping all over each other when the other is playing. It got annoying when all you hear is a garbled mix of the two.
3) Fans around where I was sitting were very into the game for the first quarter and then died until the last few minutes. Seemed to match what was happening with the game.
4) Jimmy Johns was the one player who was constantly trying to get the fans into the game. They would respond briefly to his cheerleading, but it would die. He would go again and again. I was actually pleased to see him acting the way he did. Here's hoping he gets a chance to shine next year.

The LSU fans that I sat near just came to watch a game, they just talked with us and had a good time. Guess I was lucky then?

I was at the game and did not see or heard any Bama fans starting anything. But if the LSU fans were there to watch the game then why bring Rvs, blow up the plastic tiger and wear warpaint. I saw a couple of T-Shirts trashing CNS. I saw a LSU painted Limo and the only murals on there was this year's Alabama game. And as we were leaving, Bama fans were chanting Roll Tide....then the LSU fans started their LSU chant.

Besides they have a coach that took them to the SEC championships. They will be playing for the NC next week. What is their problem?

I live in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The Florida gators I know never acted bad
toward CSS and he is an alumni. CNS is not even from LA.

The funniest thing I saw was a skinny drunk with the ULM score on his T-Shirt.

I was there and had the unfortunate opportunity of sitting among several LSU fans. I truly despise them. I will never attend another game in Lousiana period. And I will never ever pull for LSU, they could play the University of Satan, and I would not pull for them.
That being said, I did see some poorly behaving Alabama fans that were embarrasing to me. But just about every LSU fan that I saw was behaving poorly.
The main problem, in my opinion, was that they were serving alcohol in the stadium. When you mix alcohol in with Alabama and LSU fans, i think you are always going to have some problems. But it seems like to me that the LSU fans were just there to provoke the Alabama fans (i know the family sitting in fornt of me was), and in most cases they succeeded.
I hate them, i truly hate them.

Well, when the local media outlets are promoting it and encouraging it then it was bound to happen. I said for weeks leading up to this game that it would happen and for the most part it seems it did. I did not go for numerous reasons (one being not wanting to put up with this behavior).

Many people in Louisiana already couldn't stand Bama and with the Saban ordeal it has just escalated it to another level that I'm afraid is not going away. Especially when Bama beats LSU.

Well; I was at the game and let's put it this way.... We ran out of ice for our cooler... we set out to find some ...we saw a LSU fan with four huge bags (probably 15 pounds of ice in each bag) made a quick decision to offer him $20.00; his response was go (insert 4 letter word) yourself. That my friends, was my run-in with LSU fans! Not only are they rude; they can't count either!!!!!!

My friends and I had a good time in the south endzone. We saw a lot of people taken out. We had a pretty good time cutting up with a drunk LSU fan and his wife. They were pulling for Colorado by the way. A funny story though, my friend asked this other guy that was sitting nearby with a LSU hat on, if they were happy they were keeping Les Miles. He turned around and honestly answered, I have no idea who you're talking about. I can't tell that to anybody with laughing.

I'll chime in. I was there. I basically had a really good time. LSU folks, though, must teach their children 4-letter words at birth. The gutter mouths know no age boundries there--cradle to grave. I love how they party, though, and enjoy the 49.9% good fans as long as no women or children are present.

I found it funny they would go so out of their way to claim they don't want CNS. I didn't see any We got LESS! shirts.

I think the CO folks were befuddled at the character of LSU people. One commented on the "huge corndogs" sold on every corner. I told them they wouldn't sell without the LSU folks there. I think they basically embarrassed thee whole state of Louisiana.

The only face-to-face confrontation I had was with some kids drinking beer on the fairway out of the back of their pick-up. They were yelling we barely beat a high school team. I thanked them for coming to our game. I affirmed this really was "Their House" and hope they are looking forward to watching thier team in Shreveport for many years to come if they are so lucky to make it there. "You are so right. This is YOUR house." All that lasted only 1 1/2 minutes and that was mostly in fun.

I, however, remain embarrassed for their whole state. What a culture as a whole. Lordy.

Something I did notice was that about 98% of LSU people there had some sort of liquor or alcohol. Even some young kids had some. HORRIBLE.

I have heard from a few people on this board and a few Bama fans at a gas station in EAST Loooooooooossssiana that they will NOT go back to LA. for any reason. I dont blame them.

One more thing I noticed. Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee all get alot of crap about being rednecks, and folks I must say, I have lived in MS and AL and I have NEVER, EVER seen as many and such devoted white trash and rednecks as I saw down there. EVen Tutorsee and Awbarn aint that bad!

Most football fan troubles wouldn't happen without alcohol involved.I would guess most LSU fans were trashed before entering the bowl.That said I didnt have any problems myself.

I just got home from the game and we had a great time. Like everyone else, we saw a ton of LSU fans. Most of them were nice, but there were a few that were pulling for Colorado. We ended up staying in Dallas and stayed at the Cotton Bowl host hotel (Arkansas) and not a word was said to us by the Arkies. They just looked at us like why are you here???? Hopefully we are on our way to bigger and better things and NEVER EVER have to play in that bowl game again.

I wouldn't mind going to the cotton next year.Closer drive for me.Im still recovering from the 7 hr drive home after the game to get to work the next day.The win made it all worth it.

I am an LSU grad living in Shreveport and I wasn't able to go to the game, but I was rooting for Alabama. While I like my town and my team, I have noticed that LSUmania has struck Shreveport in the last couple of years. Shreveport has a large number of LSU "fans" that associate themselves as such simply by buying an LSU sweatshirt at Wal Mart. Unfortunately, many of these people have no other association or affiliation with LSU and many have likely never stepped foot on campus. These are the "fans" that I have always found to be the element giving LSU fans a bad name, whether it be at the Indy Bowl or at Tiger Stadium. These "fans" are in it for the party (drinking) just as much if not more than the game. A lot of these people seem to be a little rougher around the edges before they put on their superfan hats. I apologize for any troubles you had with so-called LSU "fans" at the Indy Bowl. LSU has a very strong LSU alumni base, and I can assure that true LSU fans were not those giving you problems.

Well, not every alumnus is perfect or doesn't involve themselves in stupidity, but I think alumni, for the mostpart, have more respect for their reputation and the reputation of their school. For non-alumni "fans" it is all about the football and therefore it is approached more like professional football fans, which I have found to be terrible in past experiences. I am sure Alabama has the same type of Wal Mart fanbase that I originally described. Of course, most Alabama fans probably would tell me that is what Auburn is for!

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem non-alumni being fans of a school. I have many friends that are LSU fans that didn't go to school there. I understand that not everyone goes to college or is able to attend the university that they would like to attend. However, it has been my observation that the fans that cause problems are an entirely different sort than most alumni.
