or so I heard I think on The Zone with Mike Raita. Tubby hired Franklin because he wanted to change offenses and the main reason was because with the spread offense it would be easier to recruit or to compete with Bama recruiting. I'm thinking WOW! CNS is able with only being at Bama one year to dictate to AU in forcing them to completely change their offense. I don't know if Bama is paying CNS enough, when CNS came to Bama I know a lot of folks thought he was maybe not worth what it cost to get him. I"m more impressed with him every time I read something about him whether it be recruiting or integrity.

Either way, we've pretty much always owned them on the recruiting front. Tuberneck had his brief little run while we were limited to how many players and just who we could recruit. Now, we're back to square one and HOPEFULLY the results will begin to show on the field against The Alabama PolyTECHnic Institute. That is where it matters most.

:BigA: If we had owned them in recruiting, they would not have won 6 in a row. But that has changed since Saban arrived, and the Barn knows it. Their run is about to end.

By the way, speaking of the barns offense, what the heck is up with their having to all stand up and look at the side line after getting to the line of scrimmage?
Can't they make up their minds what play to call or is their QB not good enough to read a defense?
Is THAT their idea of a new offense?
It sure didn't do much good against MSU.

It's the new excuse for why they didn't get a recruit. They "don't fit our scheme."

I went to a high school game last Friday where a team did the same thing. They would all stand up, look at the sideline, and apparently wait for the play call. I found it VERY annoying.

I wouldn't be surprised to see their spread start looking a little like their own (old) offense this year.

The offense is coming set and the coaches are reading the defense.
The coaches then signal in a play and all of the players look for the signal. Troy did the same thing when Tony Franklin was there. I think Troy is doing the same thing this year.

Yea, this whole Franklin Spread Eagle Offense reminds me of a bad late night infomerical.....I mean you can actually purchase this offense on the web.

So, does that make Tony Franklin the Billy Mays of spread offenses??? :cool2:

Tony Franklin is not a smart coach, he's just a smart salesman. Cowbarn doesn't have the personnel to run that offense. Franklin doesn't have the sense or experience to make it fit the players that are there. With Coach Saban taking over the recruiting, what are they going to do? I believe Franklin will be looking for a job in a year or two. Wingnut may be with him!

What Franklin fails to realize is that Coach Saban already knows how to shut it down and we're getting the players to do it. Wingnut can no longer find chicken to make chicken salad! Look for another jet-gate soon...

I have a lot of barners around me at my office. They sure have been quiet this week. The reality is beginning to sink in. Their glorious reign lasted six short years. Who wants to go to Cowbarn, when they can get coached by the best at Alabama!

I've been to Troy. And Auburn, sir, is no Troy.

In the end, Franklinstein will end up with bus tracks on his back. Just like the rest of Tubbie's OCs.

This thread is speaking about since Saban arrived, so it would have nothing to do with the six in a row because only about three Saban recruits played last year and they were freshman.

Trust me, we are owning them in state. The writing is on the wall and that is why you go to a gimmick offense.

I don't think Tubbs could resist the temptation any longer so made the giant leap off the power running game wagon and on the spread offense wagon. Texas Tech, Missouri, Kansas, West Virginia and many other schools have gone full fledge spread of some type. They have seen their points/game increase and wins/year increase.

However, one of the glaring weaknesses you've seen up to this point (if you've watched their games) is the inability to score in goal line situations. The spread or whatever Franklin is running has problems punching it in close to the goal line. The power running game is GAWN (G-A-W-N) GAWN.

They do not have the personnel to run Franklin's offense and right now it is like taking a four wheel drive and trying to drive it like an Indy car. It ain't working.

BB, I think it's broader than just the spread, or that particular spread, it's all offenses which depend exclusively on deception. That's what's so heartening about our team now. We can line up with 1 or 3 to go, goal line or not, practically point out where we're going, and smash it out. A lot of people have forgotten, but we had trouble with short yardages with Fran's offense, also, and it was sort of an "option light" offense. It finally got to where, when the OL would all take off in one direction, the LBs just thought "smoke draw," and stayed put and waited for the RB. Under Shula, we had a different problem, same result. CBC's blocking scheme was hopeless for short yardage situations...

The standing up bothers the crap out of me. I kept asking my husband (AU grad on the verge of a stroke) "What the crap are they doing?" Ugh, let one guy get the call!
