Does anybody remember a game in the early/mid 80's, when we had to go to Pauley to play UCLA when they were #1. It was a 10:30pm start, on CBS, and we had Mark Farmer playing some big red-headed Center from UCLA. We also had Whatley that year (if that helps).....if I remember, that team also had Bobby Lee Hurt, Buck Johnson, and maybe even some guy named Mike Davis? But, after all these years, the memory fades.

I remember because Wimp beat the #1 team in the country in the middle of January (mid week game between SEC tilts)....and how big it was at the time...

But, if anyone remembers, please help!!

"I can't imagine being in the Hall of Fame with Coach Bryant. There ought to be two Hall of Fames, one for Coach Bryant and one for everybody else."
Ozzie Newsome, upon his induction to the Alabama Hall of Fame.

I remember it, though not well. We had Buck Johnson on that team, but as I recall Wimp had suspended him for the UCLA game. Mark Farmer was on that team, but he didn't play much (the big white center). Terry Williams and Cliff Windham filled in well for Buck Johnson.

I believe the game was the same day as the funeral or a day or two later at most.

It was Terry Williams that was suspended for the game.

The UCLA center was Stuart Gray I think.

Mike Davis played with a big cast on his left hand - and somehow drained game clinching free throws with about 5 seconds to play.

It was very emotional then and still is to even think about it. All things considered it may have been on of the biggest wins ever for Alabama. It was more than a much needed ray of sunshine in the bleakest of all times.

Wasn't that the same year we pulled another big upset on a nationally ranked team out in California during a holiday tournament? Something tells me it was Georgetown in the Cable Car Classic and they were ranked in the top 5 also.

I remember the UCLA game but no details because of the timing of Coach Bryant's passing. I remember it did soothe the grief some.
