. By Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief Jan. 9, 2014 . Alabama offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier left Tuscaloosa for Ann Arbor, Mich., on Wednesday, leaving the Crimson Tide to take the reins of the Wolverines. . In doing so, the path of Alabama football under Nick Saban might also be making a drastic change. . Many […]

Good Read.
I like to see em 'Warts and all'. We have several good candidates.
It might take me a little while to 'Warm' to Kiffen, but he's a talented coach.
Im not sold on him because of his past Arrogance, and Brashness while verbally
trying to spar with coaches in the SEC.
I'm willing to forget the 'Lame Kitten' label if Coach Saban decides Lane can do the job, and try to fit in at Alabama.
(It might take getting used to the idea)

Was he told this during the season? If so I can only imagine a guy calling plays and putting a game plan together after being told he might want to start looking for "Plan B".
Our last two games looked like Nuss was either distracted, or making plans for his exit.
I wouldn't call it innovative Offense, when I knew what he was going to call the last two games.

It's a cinch that good coaches saw what was transpiring, and schemed accordingly.
Some members of this forum said the 'slide' was after the Mississippi State Game.
I thought we weren't the same after our Ole Miss Game.

Our arsenal of weapons weren't really utilized in the last couple of games.
(More like we were armed with a Derringer.)

I've always been a fan of an offense that runs to set up the pass, as ours is. I think having that physical approach is more successful in the long run, as opposed to a finesse pass-centric philosophy. This is predicated on the ability to run the ball, of course, and although we struggled at times this season (hard to match last year's offensive line) I would still say we are a good running team. Still, we seemed out of sorts so often and we definitely got predictable with our play action on early downs. It was as if we were TRYING to go away from the run first approach. Then we would run with some success, start moving the chains...and before you knew it we throwing it around again when the other team still hadn't brought a safety down.

I don't know...I guess I'd like to see the run first approach continue, but add in tempo and aggressiveness. We have to get our TEs involved again, especially with an amazing talent like OJH.

Just for grins, I'll throw a name out there - Tommy Bowden. He coached at Bama in the late 80's. He was OC at AU in the early 90's. As HC at Tulane he worked with Rich Rodriguez to develop the spread offense and produced the best team Tulane has ever fielded. From there he went to Clemson as HC where his offense continued to gain popularity (and where Rodriguez made a name for himself). He's not currently coaching but has a world of knowledge in many different systems, has SEC experience, and would be a strong recruiter. If he's looking to get back into coaching, this would be an opportunity he might very well jump at.

How's that for a wildcard pick?
I got one wilder than that. Wasn't Derek Dooley an offensive mind?

I agree on getting the TE more involved. We have one of if not the most talented TE's in the nation. Where was OJ Howard the last few games? Was he hurt? I like the power run to set up the pass but when they are loading the box daring you to pass and you have the best QB and an excellent crop of WR's, you have to make them pay, not just run it down the gut play after play, then pass on 3rd and long. In AJ's case we should have given him his head based on what he read from the defensive set. Maybe I coach too much from my recliner but it seemed Coach Nuss was calling the play from his box regardless of what their defense was doing.
