Looks like the 'ol ball coach will be coming back to the SEC.
BAMA fans shouldn't worry though, if CMD can beat him twice in one year, Shula can surely beat him when they meet next year.

Is anyone really surprised that he could return to UF? I think it's a good for the SEC to have Spurrier back. He always fields a competitive team (unless you're a Redskin) and his teams are fun to watch. :biga:

Not so fast my friend. The Florida folks are still saying that no hire will be made before the end of the season. Spurrier pi$$ed off a lot of folks when he dropped that bombshell on them so suddenly and right at a critical time in the recruiting cycle. All is not love and kisses in Gatordom. There are some heavyweight Bull Gators who still have the red-a$$ for Stevie.

My opinion - if Spurrier says that he wants the job, it is his. The AD - and others - will lose their jobs if they choose someone else (anyone else) and Spurrier comes forward and says that he was interested and turned down.

Sure, some were hurt when he left without so much as a wave goodbye. However, most still love him. Especially the wealthy boosters that provide financial support for this program. They long to have a program that they can brag about again. For most of these boosters, the football program is an extension of their persona and a weak program effects their ego...

You'll see red-a$$ if Spurrier ISN'T hired. The money will dry up faster than dew in the desert and UF would then be looking for a new football coach...and athletic director.

Make no mistake where the Bull Gators are putting their money. They want Spurrier.

It could very well be, that it's SS's job to take or...

:biga: or turn down. However, there are a couple of questions/doubts in my mind as too how badly SS will want to come back.

One is SS is no dummy. If you think the pressure to succeed at Florida was tough on RZ. It will be tremendous on SS although it would be of his own doing. Much of the Florida fan reaction and reasoning for applying the pressure was more of a "Ron who? What has he done and where?" With SS it'll be because he WILL be expected to do BIG things from day one. Many times it's much harder to follow your own success than that of others.

To go along with that sentiment I give you a few facts. SS's success his last seven years was a steady decline from his first five, although not in huge incriments, it was there. Secondly, as stated befrore he is no dummy and knows it will take, as in our situation a minimum of two to three years to solidify and gell his system. Will the fans wait that long? I'm not so sure.

Next, how old is SS now? 62/63 and how long does he really have? How much guff will he take from the Alums, fans and media? How long will he stay motivated and what will his motivation be? Along with his competeveness comes a temper and if he walks again in two or three years, Florida will be in the same boat of which I hope we have righted...

I think he comes back because Spurrier loves a challenge, and if the UF program needs 3-4 years to get back to the "fun and gun", his challenge would be to be in the SECCG in two which is not beyond the rhelm of possibility for SS. Also he loves golf and where can you find more courses than Fla.

I believe SS is 60 and he realisitically could coach into his 70's like Joe Pa, and isn't Bowden in his 70's?

But I agree with the poster who said there are too many wealthy boosters and fans who still want SS on the Gator sidelines.

I've read that he and Schnieder clashed and didn't see eye to eye on several issues concerning player personell.

He probably had much more freedom for making decisions at UF.
