Rewatching last year's games

I know that one's word isn't what it used to be, and loyalty is in short supply, but were I DeBoer, I would never have brought Grubb back after he bailed on me like he did in DeBoer's first year.

I don't care how good he is (which seems questionable to me anyways).

If you're going to leave me at the altar, I'm not going to have anything to do with you in the future.

Coach has had a pretty good track record with this OC in the past and really no way of knowing the events and nature of the relationship. But we sure needed a change after year 1 and dude was available. Maybe it takes him a year to adjust and I really hope that is a case based on last year but we did make a pretty deep run. Best case scenario is that they all put it together on offense, make another deep run without embarrassments, which unfortunately has turned into a problem under this regime.

I do not know if Alabama gave up on trying to run, but I believe run blocking got worse as the season progressed and pass blocking got a little better but Ty was injured.
I just think Ty's injury against So Car hurt the passing game badly.

Yeah, I know. I suspect there is a learning curve in coming to the SEC. Passing too much works against PAC-12 defenses, but against SEC defenses, you have to run more and commit to the run. Hopefully Coach Grubb has watched a lot of film in the off-season and learned that.

Learning curb was not just Grubb. CKD is still learning a painful lesson of Finesse vs Power. He has made progress, but also taken some lumps

How's this? I think we tried to run it TOO MUCH last year. It was painfully obvious we didn't have the horses (both OL and RB) to do it successfully.

I know this! I'm ready to move on to this year. I expect it will change to some extent and I hope the biggest change is we will have the horses to make it happen!

You know, one can argue we didn’t have the horses. But, we had a RB drafted by the NFL along with 3 OL and 2 other OL signed UDFA contracts. And 2 other linemen transferred and are likely starters at P4 programs. It’s inexplicable what happened the last couple of years, but, I’m not sure we can say lack of talent was the issue. Probably more likely we didn’t use the talent correctly to fit their skill.

It’s year three under coach, let’s hope he has his type players in most positions. Roll Tide!

We definitely tried to run it... And we brought in consultants even well into the season. I'm afraid it just didn't happen. If we are marginal again this year I hope Grubbs gets his dream job and we can move on.

Tentatively, I do feel better. We have a solid group of 8-9 OL that look like the right bodies, a new OL coach, and the RBs could be better. I hope Deer, Crowell, and Brown (I think that is right) learn and then move up. I do think the other two guys, though having limitations, should benefit from experience.

I think it depends on how we're successful. If the offense improves some, but it is the defense that's carrying the team. Then Kane Wommack might be the one who is off to the races.

I could see Kane jumping for a good offer and he should take it.

No doubt, if it lands him the opportunity to be a head coach at a power 5 school then he definitely needs to jump.

I'm watching the Bama-Whiskie game now. Wisconsin had a much better d-line and the Bama o-line had a tough time moving them.

Ty was on fire throwing the ball, so Grubb was not as committed to the running game as he might have been. Simpson had an extraordinary day passing the ball.

Worse than that if you ignore carries 16-21 when Wisky knew they were beat. I was at the game, and it was clear that they didn't want to be there anymore.

Even the students started to leave early. And about a nanosecond after the student body did Jump Around at the start of the 4th quarter, the student section was empty.
