RFK, Jr.: Anti-vax HHS Secretary

It's always going to be sales and marketing......
PR and marketing have certainly proven effective in attracting Trump voters. And the Democrats’ incompetence in countering the MAGA messsge has played a major role in their recent decline. Sometimes the message is more important than the truth.

That's gotta be so frustrating for the Trump haters.....

Trump comes from the entertainment and real estate industry and that certainly helps him connect to the people.

But IMHO, Trump won the election because of two things. The record inflation and the Democrat's inability to secure the southern border.

Even today the Democratic Party offers no solutions to the kitchen table topics of Americans except "We hate Trump."

It's because they care more about making money off division than actually trying to help solve anything. Much like the mainstream media - but that's a whole other topic for another day!

Joe Biden (2021–2025)

Average YOY Inflation Rate: 4.95%

The average year-over-year inflation rate under Joe Biden was 4.95%. Biden signed the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021, a $1.9 trillion stimulus package to help the country recover from COVID-19. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic recovery and the soaring gas prices after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, inflation rose to record levels not seen since the 1980s. Inflation peaked at 9.1% year-over-year in June 2022, the highest increase in 40 years.

The Fed responded by raising interest rates 11 times in an attempt to cool the stubborn inflation. While inflation did come down from its 2022 peak in 2023, it remained above the Fed's 2% target for his term. In September 2024, the Fed made its first rate cut in four years. Biden's economic policies are now referred to as Bidenomics.

LOL! I was of course thinking of the Carter years. A majority of countries would give half their economies up to get those numbers. (And would probably have to...)

Yeah Carter had the worst numbers in history!
No, he didn't. The worst since the CPI was introduced in 1917 was that year, when it exceeded 20%. Carter hit around 13% (largely out of his control, of course). When I see words like "record," at my age, I tend not to think of periods when I was in my mid-40s...

I was going off the linked article I quoted. But I defer to your expertise.

Jimmy Carter (1977–1981)
Average YOY Inflation Rate: 9.85%

The average year-over-year inflation rate under President Jimmy Carter was 9.85%, the highest inflation rate among U.S. presidents so far.

Oh, I agree that the economy and (to a lesser degree) immigration cost the Democrats the election.

See, this is a great example of Republican messaging. Smear the Democrats, link them to “fake” news, and hope that they’re not competent enough to refute the accusations. It’s been pretty successful so far - both in Florida and on a national level.

That's simply untrue. It looks like this app ate a post of mine. In the year the CPI was instituted, 1917, the inflation rate exceeded 20% and the (nominal) president was Woodrow Wilson. Of course, it was a war year...

I don't see either party offering solutions. Tariffs simply increase the cost of living. Period. Raiding job sites and hauling off people who are working - how does that help us ? Changing the name of the Defense Dept will do nothing except add costs to a federal budget that remains underwater. Taking public education dollars to subsidize private school tuition for the wealthy - what sort of solution is that ? Moving towards reducing our vaccine coverage in this country - huh ? Welcome back polio, I guess some of us missed ya.

Everything you just stated is incorrect and simply more fearmongering

And still no solutions to the kitchen table issues Americans face on a daily basis.

I'm shocked! :)

I don't see either party offering solutions. Agreed

Tariffs simply increase the cost of living. Period. Yes

Raiding job sites and hauling off people who are working - how does that help us ? It doesn't, but it feeds the MAGA appetite for cruelty

Changing the name of the Defense Dept will do nothing except add costs to a federal budget that remains underwater. Stupid move to distract from real issues like prices, employment concerns, and Ukraine (Epstein too)

Taking public education dollars to subsidize private school tuition for the wealthy - what sort of solution is that ? It serves the twisted desire to send tax dollars to religious schools and the wealthy while destroying public education

Moving towards reducing our vaccine coverage in this country - huh ? Welcome back polio, I guess some of us missed ya. Even Trump is questioning this murderous policy (at least for Florida - nothing about HHS Secretary Brainworm)

And still no solutions to the kitchen table issues Americans face on a daily basis. Both parties are failing here, but Republicans are totally in charge. For now.

Thank you. Very reasoned comments. We could look back over a number of years regardless of political party and discuss the factors that have led to the rise of Populism/Christian Nationalism /Fascism in the US.

The worst case scenario under Harris with a Republican congress was probably 4 years of gridlock with everything overall rolling along with no major disruptions… even though the Dems have no great ideas, they weren’t going to destroy things for the most part.

If we survive and get through to a sane position the rebuild is going to take years.

What solutions have the Republicans offered ?
