Who missed last nights premier of this show? It was fantastic. 15 hopeful singers met the band and performed, one was rejected. The show is on again tonight but don't know if it is a rerun or the next segment. 14 singers, 14 new songs. They had to pick a song and learn it. Someone, probably more than one, gets a song the really don't want to sing.

Hottie Brooke Burke and Rock Star Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers) are hosts. The contestants sing in front of a live audience of about 1,000 and a live band backs them up. The live band is a killer bunch of musicians. I was surprised how good these people were. Unlike American Idol, all of these singers stayed in pitch, well except one who was rejected last night, and all remembered the words, well except for one at the end.

The ones I think have the best chances:
Brandon Calhoon
Deanna Johnston
Heather Luttrell
Neal Carlson
Ty Taylor
Wil Seabrook
Daphna Dove

Sorry BayOutsider

but INXS is in deep trouble if this is the singers they have to pick from. They were Terrible------Com'on --- I have heard cats being slammed in the door that sounded better. That group has a lot of work to do.

Hey Bayou

They stepped it up a bit tonight did alot better----was impressed with all besides Brandon he is trying to push his voice way to hard and the girl who did call me she is real limited in her range!!. "I'll Take my boys and bet ya----and I will take your boys and bet ya." Bear telling Shug Jordan in A raido show before an IRON BOWL.

The two that impressed me the most of each gender was Jordis who sang Heart Shaped Box and Ty who sang Heartbreaker. There were a few more that did pretty good but overall I think some did worse than last night.

What must have been hard is learning a song in 25 hours and performing it. Have to believe they had maybe one rehersal with the band to get the arangement down. BTW that band rocks.

Something to watch for is how the audience reacts to the singer. Believe me, you can go into a studio and make a singer sound decent if you splice enough tracks together. They can make a silk purse from a sow's ear. But live, that is where you see what kind of talent one has. Several had the knowledge of how to work the crowd and some just seemed to be acting.

Look at the bios of the contestants and you can see some of them have already been around some big names in the business.

Daphna, Jordis, Brandon & Marty.

This is the first night that I've caught the show & I really liked it. Wow -- some big surprises there for me tonight. Deanna's voice certainly didn't match her blond pigtails -- I thought she'd come out soft & mellow, but NO!!! I also liked Daphna, Jordis, Brandon & Marty.

I missed it last night because I was....being a rock star myself. We are having our 20-year high school reunion in a couple of weeks. Some guys that I went to school with had a band back in the day. They have continued to play over the years, and one guy can reallllly wear out a guitar. He can play just about anything. The artist formerly known as the BamaTodd was the singer of this band when we were in JUNIOR high, and all we did was bang on some instruments and make noise to try to impress the ladies. Anyhow, in high school I went on to spend my time playing fooball and baseball while the other guys stuck with their music. Here's where it gets good. While meeting to plan the reunion 8 months ago, dude says, "We're getting the band back together." Sure, I said, thinking he was joking. Well, he wasn't. He has a play list of 17 songs, and I'm the "guest" vocalist for three of them so far. We have practiced twice in this guy's basement, and you all would be impressed at his setup. He has thousands of dollars of sound equipment, several guitars, a nice drum set, keyboards, mixing boards, you know, all the right stuff. They are very talented musicians. Then there's me. I'm singing Crazy Train, basically because I can do the crazy "All aboard" and laugh at the beginning to a tee, Rebel Yell, because I like Billy Idol and can kinda sound like him, and, get this, Purple Rain. Like Bayou said, you can take a sound system and make your voice sound different. I sound amazingly a lot like the Purple One on this song with the echo on the PA adjusted properly. That one will be fun.

But after all is said and done, I won't be giving up my day job...

:eek2:
