Me. Not so much. Would have been better if he had added a couple of Rammer Jammer's from rival games at the end there (i.e. AU last year, Gators this year...). Think it would sound pretty neat.

The Christian Rock producer probably nixed the Rammer Jammer idea. You know? Since they say, "Hell."

I'm sorry every time I hear Christian Rock I think , "Hacks that couldn't cut it doing real rock." If you're good you don't have to overtly identify yourself with a religious sect to sell records. You can sell on merit alone.

Alright I'm off the soapbox...for now.

It's great to know that you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about here.

As far as the song, eh. I think it's extremely cheesy.

If you say so. I thought since it's my opinion that Christian Rock sucks, I would know my opinion better than someone else, but okay I guess I don't.

This isn't germane to Alabama football, but IMO Christian Rock is a waste of precious oxygen and time. I won't call them no talent hacks, but if you think one quarter of those "artists" could sell album one if the weren't a "Christian" band, you are fooling yourself. It's formulaic dribble with no soul or heart. I feel the same way about Christian Rock as I do NSYNC. It's crap that impressionable people are forcefed and buy because they are supposed to.

Gospel I can listen to. Christian Rock is just a marketing tool.

I'll agree in a lot of cases that Christian Rock is pretty bad and that a large portion of Christian Rock artist couldn't cut it in the mainstream. But for every Stryper, there's an Anberlin or Reliant K. And Reliant K really didn't start turning my head until their last CD, their first few efforts were mostly garbage. Anberlin is as creative as any Rock Band in the last decade.

As far as the song "Roll Tide Roll," I really don't understand how some people get recording contracts. That song is as bad as it gets. Corny, cheesy, whatever bad name you want to call it, I'll probably agree with it.

Most modern music is derivative.

Which is why I found it comical that The Black Crowes recently sued somebody for stealing a song from them, when they've been stealing the Rolling Stones's chops for years. And the Stones tried their best to sound like Howlin' Wolf.

There is a difference between being derivative and doing it well and being derivative and doing it poorly.

I listen to a lot of punk music. It's kind of hard to really innovate in that genre. The genre itself is defined by being simple, fast, and raw. I mean listen to NOFX and then the Vandals and then the Mr. T Experience...you'll find a lot of similarities, but they are all kickass bands.

I started thinking about it, and even though a lot of newer music is derivative of older music, that doesn't mean it's not original or creative.

I know this has nothing to do with the original post, which is one of the worst songs ever recorded, but sometimes threads go OT, and this one needs to in order to save it.

Anyway,

Exhibit A:

Panic at the Disco listened to The Beatles pretty much exclusively for a few months before they recorded their most recent and sadly, final CD. They incorporate tons of 1960's rock flavor in their music, but with a modern twist. Either way, it's one of my favorite CD's released last year. If you've never heard of them, I encourage you to listen to the following songs and tell me what you think. You can easily hear The Beatles influence.

"Nine in the Afternoon"

"Behind the Sea"

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZ0SK9xMJs4]YouTube - Panic at the Disco "Behind the Sea" (Original Version)[/ame]

Exhibit B:

The Thrills are pretty heavily influenced by The Beach Boys even though they're from Ireland, and you can hear it pretty much on every album. They are a little further from the mainstream than Panic at the Disco, but to me, they're still fantastic. Again, if you haven't listened, I encourage you to, good music is still being made. I'll readily admit the guys voice is a little annoying, but then again, isn't Dylan's? Also, if you do listen, don't watch the video's, some are just lyrics, and the others just aren't that good.

"Big Sur"

"The Midnight Choir"

I know this stuff may not be your cup of tea, some of it has to grow on you. But it does back up your point about all music being derivative. And I do think you can still be creative in this day and age.

Over under on how long it takes for another hack to write some godawful song about the Alabama football team?

I'm saying three weeks, cause it just has this nice ring to it.

You've got real good points. I'm not much aware of PITD's music, but I'll have to give it a listen.

I always laugh at kids and even adults who say they hate The Beatles, but then, when I listen to some of the stuff they are into, it's heavily influenced by The Beatles. Who can honestly say that Coldplay or Oasis, or Lenny Kravitz aren't totally derivative of the moptops?

If you do listen to PITD, listen to the album "Pretty.Odd." Their first album is an entirely different sound. I can't stand it. But "Pretty.Odd." is where it's at.
