Man, by seemingly all accounts the Ukrainians a really handing the russkies their butts.

You just hate to hear it.
Actually, they're losing ground in the Donbas. We're still not moving fast enough in getting the materiel to them. One Ukrainian officer interviewed this AM said that the Russians were trying to seek out and destroy the M777s. He said five had already been hit and taken out of action. They really need 400-500, instead of 90. They need the short/medium range tactical rockets also. I understand DOD (and higher) are concerned because those rockets can be used to strike deep into Russia proper, thus escalating. In fact, in his usual rocket-rattling style, Putin has already "cautioned" NATO against providing such rockets...

This was pretty much the assessment I read. The 400-500 howitzers and the MLRS was part or what is thought to be needed to push Russian completely out of Ukraine. Otherwise it was going to be a stalemate in the east with Russia keeping territory gains.

I'm afraid right now it's not even going to be a stalemate for Ukraine...

The more the Russians advance into Ukraine, the more rear area they have to guard and the further away the ground forces that can protect convoys and hunt down insurgents will be.
So basically, the Russians would be better off if they stopped pushing and just held on to what they hold. They are too dumb (or proud) to settle for that though and will probably be pushed back again.

True, but I'll have to point out again that falling back on insurgents means you lost the main frontal battle. Also, in the area they're fighting in now, I'm not too sure of how much support the Kyiv government has...
