I've only watched the game once, but I don't recall a lot of timing routes. IIRC, Evans was running down field when he received the ball. I don't recall him going over the middle a lot or out patterns. At any rate, when Bama was getting burned, he was way down field.
It still requires timing. The plays in their first two drives were thrown on time to a spot. They were perfect passes.

Is that what LSU did last year? I'm asking because I didn't see the game.
Yes - Manziel said it was the most physical game he had even played in. Of course, Manziel was not the Manziel that we saw last Saturday at that point either.

Last year the barn "escaped with a victory" against ULM.

Alabama beat Texas A&M on their own field against a guy who may be the best college player ever.

You just cannot sufficiently game plan for someone who plays "sandlot football" the way Johnny Fooseball does. Say what you want about the defense but we got pressure on the qb but it was not our game plan to get sacks but try to contain as much as possible. Johnny Fooseball (several times) just threw the ball up for grabs a few times. Dix was in great position for an interception on one but got pushed by one of the aTm receivers (which should have been offensive pass interference) and Evans just was a beast. One of the best things to take away from this game is the fact that our offense scored that many points in a game. We won at aTm's own game. LSU may very well get beat by Johnny Fooseball and co. I think, for the most part, that we played Johnny Fooseball and aTm about as well as anyone can.

This may be a simple way to look at it, but I'm a simpleton, so here goes. For whatever reason, Bama has been unable to sign and/or develop a top notch pass rusher in the mold of a Derrick Thomas, or even Nancy (I'm having foot surgery after the season) Clowney. A good, get off the ball quickly pass rush can mess with a quarterback's head. Especially if someone is able to really lay the wood to him. Is this too simple?

There were three passes on the first drive. The first two passes were fly patterns to Evans. Evans was bumped at the line and took the sideline. When JM sees he's even with the DB, Fulton, and there's no over the top coverage, he recognizes mismatch and throws the ball. There's no timing involved. He's either open or JM looks for #2.

The touchdown was to the TE (#85) who turned and looked for the ball way before the ball was thrown. He was wide open when JM threw the ball. Again, no timing involved. In fact, JM bumped into the running back.

Drive 2, there were two passes, both to Evans. The first was another fly. C. Jones missed the jam and Evans was wide open. The second was when Evans caught the ball OB just out of the end zone. That one may have been timed.

I'm not trying to be argumentative. In fact, I really enjoy your posts and your contribution, it's some of the best on the board. I'm just saying LSU is not going to be able to game plan to be physical with these guys and be successful. I think JM makes the pass to the open receiver or mismatch, goes to #2, scrambles and keeps if there is open field or heaves it down field.
