We all know that in the upcoming years, we as fans are going to have to deal with constent rumors dealing with Saban and opening college HC positions.
But a comment from a former boss of Saban's, Perles at Michigan State, in a Birmingham News article got me thinking. This is what he said:
"Perles said he anticipates that Saban will stay true to his word, but added that other coaching offers will come.
"Maybe one day he'll get an offer near where he's raised, maybe Pittsburgh or Penn State," Perles said. "Just take advantage of him as long as you can because he'll bring you a winner, and you'll have a lot of fun.
"That's just who Nick is. You get it all with him."
Does it seem that there may be a high possibility that Saban might bolt from Alabama as soon as the Penn State position comes available? It would be closer to home, and in an area that Im sure he would love to go back to. And it definitely looks like that Paterno is running on fumes, and probably does not have more than a couple more years in him, if that.
Many people have said that he most likely would not leave ALabama until he retires, because why would he leave unless he was going to another big time football school. Well, I think Penn State fits the description of a big time football school.
A move to Alabama from the NFL at this time would be a great decision for Saban if he was considering this. Staying and continuing to lose in the NFL for another year or so would more than likely have severly hurt his chances at getting the Penn State position when it does open in the next couple of years. So, go ahead and get back into college football, at a big name school like Alabama. Have a couple good/great/awesome seasons at Alabama, and be sitting pretty when the Penn State position comes open.
Throw in the kind of influence Terry has on her husband:she would probably like to be closer to home, in a nice football town.
I may just be worrying about nothing, but those comments in that article just got me wondering realistically how long Saban might stay. (I hope he retires here, just as most Bama fans.............so no flames please)
