Very surprising. I thought he was polished enough to be in the NFL. Or at least polished enough to get a big contract. Maybe he saw the Matt Ryan formula with the Falcons and realized more college experience will definetely help with progressions, leadership, etc. It is very hard for a 20-21 year old to jump into a bad situation and be the "man." It is much easier with two more years of experience to gain some more confidence.

I guess he didn't want to play for the Lions...he was projected by many to be the top overall pick in the Draft. Looks like Stafford is headed to Detroit.

That is somewhat surprising for a guy who has been the #1 pick in a few mock drafts I've seen. But good for him! Let him be his own man and make his own decisions.

Somebody needs to call the NCAA. This guy is turning down a possible 80 million dollar contract???

Hmmm....

Let's get real.

How can he improve his stock by staying? When you're rated the probable number one pick, and you turn it down, there's only one way to go.

Even if he remains number one, he's still going to get picked by the worst team in the league, so enough about.."He doesn't want to play for the Lions".

If Stoops allows him to stay he should be fired. He should convince this young man to set himself, his family, and his future family, "up" for the rest of his and their lives.

Unbelievable.

Good for Bradford, cares more about character than dollars.

When Williams and Brown could have been first rounders and came back for the barn, they went undefeated.

Henderson won the Outland as a junior at utk, came back for his senior year.

Sad that so many think more of $ than anything else.
When you are talking multi-millions what is a few million, and what is one year?

When Bama has guys good enough to go but with enough character and love for Bama to stay, then we will get where we want to go.

Thank you Mr. Caldwell for your dedication and character.

Those statements are true, but bypassing a number one pick and guaranteed money is not smart in most peoples' opinion. He could very well get injured, or have a bad season, seeing his stock slip tremendously. However, on the flip side its good for Oklahoma and College Football.

I gained alot of respect for him when he played Florida. He is really a good qb. Then again, as little as he gets hit, he doesn't really have to worry about getting hurt. He will probably be the 1st QB taken next year.

Right now he's a kid still down about the loss to Florida and wanting to come back and prove himself.

That's where Stoops should step in as an adult, and as his coach, and say "Sam, I love you, I can't let you do this...take the money".

It's better for him that he return. If you look at the really successful QB's in the NFL these days (Phillip Rivers, Drew Brees, Peyton and Eil, Tom Brady, etc.), they all have one thing in common - they played 4 years of college football.

There is always something that these young QBs need to improve upon, so why not do it at the college level as opposed to the pro level?

I think Stafford should have stayed as well, but you can't fault him for going after the millions he will receive.

I think this says something very positive about Sam's character and his level of maturity. He's willing to forego millions at least for a year hopefully in an effort to get his degree, further his development, and take full advantage of his college experience, and with a good shot at playing for another NC.

I only wish our own Andre Smith had done the same thing....something tells me one day he will wish he had done just that.
