Sam Linebacker, Who is going to get snaps?

With Jonathan Atchinson and Alex Watkins both injured there is no one backing up Jarrell Harris, So who is going to fill that roll?

I know Tana Patrick has played some outside linebacker

True Freshman Xzavier Dickson has also played at OLB

I seem to remember Chris Jordan being tried there once but I'm not sure if it worked out.

In a pinch I think you could put Sunsuri there. I know he is way too small but he has some sort of gift at this game that defies logic.

I'm sure they will work on that this week. My money is going to be on Xzavier, he has the size and athleticism to be effective there.

We usually play a lot of nickel so the Sam backer doesn't get that many snaps anyway, but with LSU and their power running game coming, we'll probably see a lot more base D. I'm not sure who it will be, but they will probably get a good bit of playing time November 5th...

What is Atchison's injury? Is it supposedly season-ending?

It's a good question. It's nice to know with the backers you have that you have multiple answers. It's no limit to the possibilities. Nico slides over or Trey comes out. Adrian Hubbard gets it etc., etc. Gotta love it. Not worried at all. But this is in a back position, the strength is still in the starters who are all there.

We're good. LB is without question the deepest & most talented group we have on the team. Of course if we were to lose Hightower for any length of time (God forbid) it would be a TOUGH loss for several reasons, not the least of which are his knowledge, experience, leadership, and flexibility on our defense

JH hasnt come off the field much this year and has been playing pretty lights out. hopefully we dont have to worry much about it. But it is possible depriest and sunseri can both get looks there.

I don't think either JA or AW has taken a real snap at SAM all year so as long as JH doesn't go down, I don't think we see a difference. That backup doesn't have to rest the starter because the starter comes off the field every time we play nickle or dime, which we play moreso than we play our base 3-4 scheme.

the real impact will be to the rabbit rush alignments, where watkins was contributing. We could see lots of options there, from JH, to DH or AH (how do all these guys have last names starting with 'H') and then some combination of Nico, CJ, TD or ever Jordan filling the WLB spot).

now if JH gets hurt, that would be interesting. Just a guess, but I think we'd see CJM slide over. SAM needs to be a little better at pass coverage since they often have to pick up a TE or RB in coverage and seem like CJM would be better there than our other options.

Reading through this, it is just nice seeing all these names as options. Just a few years back we sure did not have this. Our talent is great everywhere but linebacker depth really does stand out.
