Scholorship limitations in baseball.

I was glad to hear to the announcers talking, at length,during the Texas-Miami game about the ridiculous scholorship limitaitons placed on baseball 11.7 divided among as many as 40 players. It especially hurts Alabama because we do not have the extra none athletic scholarships to give like Georgia, Loouisiana, Florida and the rest of the SEC. This is a big factor in our recruiting and signing. I've heard it many times on why we didn't get this or that player, "because we ran out out of scholarship money". Hopefully, with College Baseball becoming more of a revenue generating sport we will get some relief from the NCAA. The college ADs and Presidents vote on this and they look at the money generated. ESPN carrying Super Regional and CWS really helps bring this to light.

It' good to hear people talking about it, but don't get your hopes up. If the NCAA changes scholarship limitations for baseball anytime soon, it will probably be a cut. Nobody in Indy ever wants to give out more - only less.

I think baseball does have a chance at more scholarships if ESPN increases it's coverage. I thought an encouraging sign for this was last week when, if FSU and Texas would have played game 3 of their super on Tuesday, the game was going to be carried by ESPN. I would think if the ratings for the other super regional games they carried weren't very good, this game probably would have been put on ESPN2. I really think interest in college baseball will increase over the next few years. Increased coverage by CSTV could also help it grow.
