I dont know about that. I think we just faced fewer defenses in 2023 with the ability to expose him. For the most part in 2024, he continued his pattern of playing well against the leaser defenses, then hitting a brick wall against certain defenses. Tennessee didn't have the personnel to do it in 2023. We also added Oklahoma. Other than Oklahoma, Auburn, Tennessee, and Michigan, Milroe was decent, just like in 2023. He didn't look good in the Iron Bowl in 2023, either. I wouldn't trust the stats on this one. The performances in 2023 and 2024 are far more similar than they appear at first glance.
Some of that is also on players around Milroe. Our 2023 RT, Latham, was a 7th pick of the draft, while his replacement, Pritchett, had one of the worst PFF grades last year. That is on recruiting during Saban era.

Now you're just going out of your way to blame Sheridan with this comment, and honestly your overall take. This is just a ridiculous take. If plays produce wide-open WRs, at that point it's the players' job to execute. Not for Sheridan to jump out of the booth and do it for them. Coaches coach, call plays to produce opportunities and the players' job is to execute. Milroe torpedoed a lot of opportunities and there's no way around it, no matter how hard you try to explain it away.

Sheridan called plays that had Michigan dead to rights, but Milroe completely missed the wr's. Hell, it was so bad the commentators started pointing it out and our own wr's were showing public frustration. Sheridan did his job, Milroe just didn't do his.
The thing about DeBoer’s offense is highly dependent on wide receivers finding space. There have been several SEC players and coaches go to the PAC 12 and say that DeBoer’s offense is the most confusing offense that they have ever seen because you really have to figure out the receivers. However, when you don’t have a quarterback that can get them the ball then it blows up in your face. I think the Michigan game more proved that we had an incapable quarterback than an incompetent defense. Milroe had mostly clean pockets and still looked for one receiver and then nothing.

There’s a difference. Deboer was leaving to take a job he wanted more but acknowledged his feelings for UW. That’s legit and admirable Grubb was tipping his hand that he didn’t want to leave…
Imo he came for the pay check mostly but not totally. Other wise no tears

Mike Macdonald said Huff's future with Seattle is still under consideration.
You heard wrong. Straight from McDonalds mouth straight into a microphone. I saw it. Not sure what you read but Huff's future was laid out loud and clear and it isnt with the Seahawks.

My $1 is on that he’s not a starting QB in the League.
…not that there’s anything wrong with that.
I said that about Tim Tebow and lost a bet lol
At one point during Jalent Hurts lowest times at Bama I boldly declared he'd never play a down as a QB in the NFL.

I had to eat major crow over that, but Jalen then sat a year behind Tua and grew and then went to OU for a year and he was miles ahead of where JM is now.

So I won't say JM will never play QB in the NFL. But I kinda doubt it. 😁

To be honest, I am not a fan of Sheridan or Grubb. I would prefer CKD find a new OC who has no ties to CKD.
I get Sheridan since we have a year to see but did you really follow Grubb's career long enough or thorough enough to make that judgment? I watched one game of Washington's last year and it was the NC game last year and that is a very small sample. You may have watched every game of Washington's over the last couple of years but........

No, I didn't hear wrong. What I heard however may have been earlier. Macdonald said he was still considering the future of Huff. He may have since decided to let him go.

There is also an article on heraldnet.co and another on Seattle Sports Now that says the same thing.

“I hold no animosity or ill will toward Grubb,” Lucas said. “I think Grubb’s a good coach at doing what he does, and wherever he ends up he’ll be successful.” "Macdonald said no decisions had yet been made on other coaches, including offensive line coach Scott Huff. Both Grubb and Huff were first-year NFL coaches after leading the University of Washington offense in 2023."

I said that more times than I could count.

There are some big differences between those two, though. Hurts started out pretty good as a passer but went into a major sophomore slump. He seemed to become terrified to throw the ball. He wouldn’t even throw it away, preferring to step out of bounds for a big loss on several occasions. But that’s a lot better than getting reckless and throwing pick sixes as Milroe liked to do. Other than the deep ball Milroe was never much good as a passer.

You mean like this guy?

As I said after the season, I won't judge CKD until he has another QB not named JM.

So, next year there will be a new QB and I'll be fine and dandy with the OC CKD wants calling plays next year.

FWIW, I'd take Grubb in a heartbeat if he'd come, but I'm confident Sheridan will be like a man broke out of prison calling plays next year compared to his shackles this season!

This is good analysis. You can even go further, if Sheridan had dumbed the offense down so much that we werent running RPO but Run plays or Pass plays with no audible and the QB had a tell on which one it would be then you very likely wind up with the mess we just witnessed. In those 3 games, the opposing coaches had the discipline to implement a gameplan that used our weaknesses against ourselves. They were probably laughing at our tape breaking it down.

In basketball it's pretty common to dare someone to take a shot if you know they can't shoot. I said stuff like this dating back to Hurts time, it isn't about drawing up a play that hypothetically works. It's about drawing up a play that actually works.

In this case, the key to beating Alabama with Sheridan/Milroe is not to cover all the receivers, it's to shut down Milroe on the ground. Alabama's two best games (Georgia and LSU), Milroe ran all over them. You know what his averages were in the losses? 1.4, .8, .5 and .4. This from someone that averaged 4.3 per rush. These defenses knew how to beat Alabama, and it wasn't by covering the receivers, it was just by stopping Milroe on the ground. Who is responsible to counter that though? Figuring out a way around that? It's the coordinator, he's supposed to outsmart those guys who knew it was alright to leave guys open as long as Milroe wasn't comfortable running around.

College kids are morons. It's herding cats. Just look at the transfer portal. You're not dealing with smart kids making smart choices most of the time, you're dealing with dumb kids making dumb choices. This means you need an offensive coordinator that can deal with things even when you have a bunch of idiots out there doing dumb stuff. You need to be able to achieve with adversity, because that's the only given. There will always be adversity.

So I don't care how someone does when everything is going great, that's easy. Even Locksley looked great when he didn't have adversity, and then when it did hit? It might as well have been a brick wall. So I don't care how anyone performs under ideal circumstances, I care how they perform under the toughest adversity because that's where you win championships.

The way I see it Sheridan got baited into putting it all on Milroe's arm to win games where Milroe's arm was never going to win games. Alabama only handed off 12 times against Michigan and all we're talking about is open receivers. Sounds to me like the gameplan Michigan had worked quite well (even with a backup QB who only attempted 3 passes). Sheridan's? Not so much...

You must not ever have left a job, team, or city you love for another you felt you needed to go to. I have; several times. Emotions are always at play in such cases, but they don’t necessarily mean you’re a mercenary. In CKD’s case, I believe his emotions were akin to mine in similar (less lucrative!) circumstances. I sense that Ryan Grubbs’ were more, “I don’t want to leave but I don’t have a better option yet.” And I might be wrong…

Edit to correct typo
